Lonely and Confused & NEW here
« on: March 10, 2011, 11:39:07 am »
Good afternoon all, Hope all is well

Not newly diagnosed but has known about my HIV status for some time, I was in complete denial and depression. I finally opened up and told a family member who I asked not to disclose to my friends and at that time live-in boyfriend and my children, That I would like to do it myself, in my time...But they did anyway, now Ive lost friends because they feel I lied and held back, and of course I am no longer in a relationship, (he is HIV-negative) he just doesn't talk to me anymore. My children are there for me but now they worry more I know how I handled it all was all wrong, but the reactions from my friends.family,  make people not want to disclose their HIV status, it's scary now, b/c I don't have the support of anyone, Of course my family member gave out the wrong diagnosis actually she told them I have AIDS...I don't have AIDS and in fact my t-cell count is above 500 my VL is 95 and I'm doing great on my meds. She didn't take the time to understand all that, but at this time it doesn't matter because I have to live for myself first and my children,

SO I'm looking for some support groups in Brooklyn,Manhattan
So that I can make new friends
If anyone has any information let me know.

Sorry, Torn I don't live in NY.  Just wanted to welcome you here to our women's family.  I was diagnosed 21 years ago, but I"m doing pretty well.  It's great to hear you're taking care of you (and your kids).  Don't worry about people treating you different-they weren't worth it if that's the case.

I bet if you google "HIV support in Brooklyn/Manhattan" you'll get some hits.  Again, welcome.
