Please take the time and read the "Welcome" thread. You had NO RISK in contracting HIV by chewing his gum or smoking after him etc.

surfer,

Saliva is not infectious, regardless of what you read elsewhere. There is a lot of out-dated and/or just plain wrong information on the internet concerning hiv. Saliva contains over a dozen different enzymes and proteins that damage the surface of the virus, which makes it impossible to go on to infect a new host. Saliva is NOT infectious and we've known that - without doubt - for years.

Here's what you do need to know about protecting yourself from hiv transmission. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

If you and your husband have never been tested, you might want to, especially if either or both of you have ever had unprotected intercourse with someone whose hiv status you do not know for a fact. But there is no way you would have been infected from sharing chewing gum.

Hi everybody i have been on here once before but i don't know if you all remember me.  I ask a question about transmitting hiv by chewing a piece of gum after my hiv + friend and you all told me there was no risk in that.  I have some questions about spit.  from what i have read on the welcome thread hiv can be transmitted through open cut, sores, and abrasions.  Okay i guess my question is can hiv be transmitted by getting spit in an open cut or sore.  or is it totally unlikely?  or what if my firend licked a cut or a sore i had?  Please don't get angry by my dumb questions but this is the only place that i have found that is helpful and has good information for people who have questions.

HIV can NOT be transmitted by spit, saliva, tears or sweat.

surfer,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

As Rodney says, saliva is not infectious and will NOT transmit hiv. There are over one dozen different elements in saliva that actually damage hiv and make it unable to be transmitted to a new host.

Saliva is NOT infectious, period, end of story.

Make sure you read the Welcome thread and follow the Transmission Lesson link found there. Please also read the condom and lube links in my signature line because all you need to do to remain hiv negative is to make sure condoms are used every time you have intercourse. No exceptions.

Ann i am sorry i didn't know how to do that. thank you for doing that for me.
sorry for my ignorance i am not trying to upset anyone with my questions so it can't be transmitted if he licked an open cut?  so i shouldn't be worried because we never had sex or any sexual behavior.

surfer,

If you'd read the Welcome thread like you've been asked to, you'd know how to find your thread and you'd also know that saliva is not infectious. Licking a cut will not transmit hiv.

Surfer,

Who's upset? I'm just telling it like it is. Saliva is NOT infectious, never has been, never will be.
