I've always been a big fan of the HBO show so I have seen the movie. I thought the movie was very funny. There was an AIDS joke early on, something about him wearing a protective cloak made by gypsies to protect him from getting AIDS when he comes to America. My wife and I just sort of exchanged a shocked look and then we sort of laughed at it. Oh, and I popped my Atripla pill in the theatre on time only a few minutes later. Quite the moment. ;D

I've not seen the movie, but I have see Borat in action on telly here in the UK. I find this character quite boorish. Allegedly, his purpose it to point out how prejudiced people can be but for me, it feels more like an excuse to trot out some very unsavoury jokes at the expense of others.

I found Sasha Baron Cohen's other alter ego, Ali G, to be funnier - although he pushed the definition of good taste and humour then too.

I certainly wouldn't spend money to see this movie.

Just my tuppence worth!

He is the cat's meow right now and I agree with Ann,  more Boor-at then Borat.  it tends to get tiresome. Already some people want to sue him because he showed them what ass holes they are.

Well, he (it?) looked dumb as a rock to us.  We've found in reent years that when a flicked is plugged as much as that one was, it's usually a dud.

We've gone to flicks in the past when there's been huge "raves" about them, and have been disappointed.

And the behavior that gets "caught" is usually a set up or the people have been baited by the producers of the show.

He tries to portray Americans as ugly?  Only people that would love to live here would do so.

This ugly American thing stems from the French in my opinion...  Well we could have just let Hitler run amonk I guess.. our bad for getting involved.

I think I'll stick to Johnny Knoxville....  thats one ugly dude!

I did not see the movie but when seeing commercials, I did not see what was funny. As for Ali G, I never got him either...And Johnny Knoxville, I'm not even gonna go there but wasn't he part of the Jackass crew? I just don't see the humor in trying to f*ck yourself up.... ???

Only saw a few clips in a movie review on TV yesterday. If those were the highlights I'd hate to see the low points. Dull, dull, and boring.

   Charles,

I apologize if your French and I offended you.   Everyone just trashes America allot and I don't know for some reason it gets under my skin sometimes.   I just don't allow my governments mistakes cloud my judgement on why this is one of the greatest places on earth!

Yeah, I dont think I will see it.
As for the French, I love their country and food but the reason many Americans make fun of them is because of their unwillingness to defend their own country in WW1 and WW2, so we had to go save their ass. Many US people also do not like France because they were taking huge bribes in Saddam oil for food program and that was the reason they didnt want us to attack Iraq. Saddam was paying of every sleazebag in the world.
I was in Ialy last month and can say I heard no loud Americans.  I did hear people from other countries who were very loud.  Of course I do get pretty loud.

the thing that amazes me is the great reviews this movie has received. The clips on yahoo that i have seen are not funny at all. I guess I just dont get it. I always wonder how much reviewers are paid under the table for good reviews.
sort of like some of the recent Will Ferrell movies, they get great reviews and in my opinion arent funny and suck big time. Will is ok as a buddy and with supporting roles but he just cant carry an entire movie. Taladega nights and Anchorman were just boring and not funny.

I always get the feeling these guys are being paid off.  The slop that comes out of America made for the dvd market. it used to be a movie would have a run of 6 or 7 weeks, like Jaws or Starwars.
Now they are just interested in getting the punters in and out. Some of the premises are so ridicules,
like that one where the two lovers lived years apart and somehow a mailbox transpires time and space.
Otherwise they are bad bastardizations of French movies.
Looking foward to seeing "Volver."
Has anyone seen the movie "Happiness"

BORAK is not high on my list.

But I did go to a screening last night of CASINO ROYALE last night, which is high quality mega-testosterone fun. Definitely recommended.

And last weekend I saw John Cameron Mitchell's SHORTBUS, which is excellent and enjoyably pornographic a lot of the time. I'm talkin' serious and varied sex. I doubt if it will be available other than in major cities so keep it in mind for Netflix. Really.

It is not one that is on my list.   A lady I work with saw it, and said it was terrible.   She wished she could have gotten her money back.    I know that feeling....

I did enjoy "The Prestige"....but is it just me or are film editors really vamping up their work?   Movies seem to skip around so much now, I find myself getting lost.   The Prestige jumped around a bit in time....I think I would actually enjoy it more at a 2nd viewing.
