Test Results - Performed Unprotected Oral Sex
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:45:59 pm »
Good Evening,
Thank you for your help.  I have a couple of questtions.
I performed unprotected oral sex and at 13 weeks and 16 weeks I have tested negative.  Am I beyond the window period?  Is it 3 month or 6 month.  Should I be tested at 24 weeks? What are the changes of my test going from negative to positive at the 24 week mark?  What symptoms at this point should I be looking for? I would like to hear from you.  Thank you in advance for responding to me.

Monday,

The window period for HIV testing is 13 weeks and as such you have reliably tested negative. There is no need for you to test at 24 weeks.

Symptoms are no indicator of HIV status and so you should not be looking for any. Rather you should determine if you've engaged in a risk activity and then test at the appropriate point, ie 13 weeks later.

You don't say who you performed oral sex upon. If it was a woman, then you were not at risk of contracting HIV even if she was positive. If it was a man, then any risk is theoretical. No cases of HIV being transmitted in this fashion have every been reliably documented.

Please take the time to read our Welcome Thread to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

in the documentation on this site that states read befor psoting,
it stated that unprotected oral was a risk with some documented cases.  Did I misread or misunderstand.  Also 13 weeks in the definative window peridod?

From time to time there is a report of someone saying they were infected through giving oral sex. They never seem to hold up under careful scrutiny. Your saliva has over a dozen elements and proteins which very effectively prevent the transmission of viable HIV.

Further, longterm studies of sero-discordant couples, both gay and straight, affirm the non-risk. They had lots of mutual unprotected oral and only protected vaginal and anal intercourse. To date not a single sero-negative partner has become infected.

But this is something where you have to decide about your own personal comfort zone. If you are uncomfortable with giving unprotected oral then use a condom. We don't think it's necessary but you have to ultimately decide for yourself.

Cheers.

Thank You Andy and Rapid Rod,
So, do you believe my test results are conclusive at 16 weeks and no further testing is needed...am I understanding that correctly?
Thanks again!

Monday,

The window period for hiv testing is three months. You tested negative at four months. You are conclusively hiv negative and you do not need further testing over this incident.

Hi Ann,
Thank you for your response.  Is 3 month for all regardless of risk.  Meaning if it was a high risk incident the window period would be longer than a low risk incident.
Thanks again.

Monday,

It doesn't matter what the risk is, the window is still three months. You didn't even have a real risk anyway, as you have been told.

YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. It's time you got on with your life.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple! Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

Hi Ann and all,
I'm just confused because I hear so often that a conclusive test isn't until 6 months.  Is 3 months now the new 6 month....meaning that at 3 month testing all who will test positive will test in that time period.  That instead of 6 month being the cushion to catch all, 3 month is it???
I really appreciate your information and your time in answering my questions.
Thank You!

Monday,

Just because there's a lot of out-dated information out there doesn't make it right. The window period has been at three months for YEARS now.

There are a few special circumstances where a person might  need to test out to six months. I doubt you fit into any of these circumstances. They are people who are on chemotherapy for cancer, people who are taking anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant, or people who have been injecting street drugs, every single day for YEARS.

You have tested conclusively negative and it's time you gave this up.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned!

Ann and Andy,
Thank you for your responses.  I did not intend to violate any of the forums rules, offend anyone or to upset anyone. I am simply a person struggling to deal with a scary and uncertain situation.  My goal was to get information to help me and protect others.  When differening information is out there, someone with little knowledge becomes scared and confused.  The mind plays tricks especially at times when the body is going through issues, whether it's do to infection, stress or anxiety.Thank you for taking your time and isharing your nformation.

Is a negative test at 13 weeks considered conclusive?  8 weeks?  Or should there be a retest at 24 weeks, 6 months?  On different forums I see different thougths?

I've merged your threads as our rule is to use only your original thread for making further entries.

You have been told several times that you are HIV negative and that your negative test result is a reliable one. You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

That doesn't seem to satisfy you but there's really nothing more we can say to you at this point except to get on with your life. I am going to give you the 28 day Time Out which you have been warned was coming if you continued to return when we know HIV is not an issue for you. Don't make ths mistake of trying to get around the Time Out by creating a new name. We'll be able to spot that and doing that will get you permanently banned from the site.

Now, you're HIV negative. Stop with the questions and the drama and get on with your life.

Monday,

Because you attempted to create a new account to get around your time out, you are now permanently banned.
