I have to wonder how Louisiana and Mississippi who are 2 of the poorest states in the union aren't on that list. Is it because our formulary is so small?
It's terrible that there is a waiting list for ADAP. I'm using ADAP for the moment but if I want to leave the state will I be added to a new state's waiting list?

Louisiana is currently facing a $5 million shortfall between current flat-lined Ryan White Part B [ADAP] funding and increased costs due to demand [need] for treatment. The state department which handles LA ADAP is considering several cost containment measures including several posted by MarcoPoz.
In short, Louisiana will be on that list soon since there are changes which are yet to be determined for the ADAP in Louisiana. I don't know what's brewing in MS.

As a member of the planning body for Ryan White Services in the New Orleans EMA, we've been primed for this the past two weeks. It is disconcerting when so much effort has been exerted in identifying new positives only to possibly be unable to offer treatment if needed to those brought into care.
Since each state has specific eligibility requirements, I'd urge you to contact your new state of choice and see what those are. For example, if you move to state which is closed to new enrollees for ADAP or has a waiting list, you could experience an interruption in treatment unless you have the resources [insurance, money, etc] to cover the costs of your meds. Treatment interruptions are unpredictable and may have undesired consequences. -YaKa

so far Florida is holding its own.... Miami-Dade and Fort Lauderdale area typically get a pretty good share of funding based on pr evelance.

Because the American "haves" are too greedy to give any sort of charity to the "have nots". I've gone round and round with my parents and my friends about why I would give a large portion of my income to help people who could not do for themselves (back when I had a reasonable income). Their counterargument always has something to do with Welfare Queens and exploiting the system.
People will get sick, suffer, and die because the "Richest nation in the world" won't bother to help its citizens.

Tomorrow 3/17, I'll be attending a rally in Columbia SC protesting against the ADAP waiting list, and the statewide funding cut to ALL HIV/AIDS services - both prevention and treatment
