i believe live music is good medicine
i'm curious what kind of music you guys listen to... i mean what you really enjoy, not some funny internet ditty.
i was raised on bluegrass, listen to a lot of jamband music, somewhere in there i picked up djembe circle drumming... and that really is magic medicine
so, i'll share what i listen to, and i'm interested in what works for yall
three to start
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_fwgkpghtM (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_fwgkpghtM) widespread panic, home town boys for me and tim. they came on the scene in my teens... seen them countless times, last month on my birthday with my sons was great
http://tinyurl.com/nwn8pfs (http://tinyurl.com/nwn8pfs) greensky bluegrass, like raw milk, good bluegrass is an aquired taste... there will be banjos. i saw these guys last month too, a little room, smoking hot
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIyjTpUFf9M (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIyjTpUFf9M) the grateful dead, cause if it's good enough for jody then by god... a legendary show, i wasn't there, my oldest son was born that night
-
Classic rock.Bob Seger. Country Toby and pop pink and now that one guy Zach got me listening to marely?
-
i mean what you really enjoy
Prince, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, Chromeo, Bush, David Bowie, KMFDM, Roy Orbinson, Psychedelic Furs, Smashing Pumpkins, Katy Perry, Patrick Wolf
-
I love Classic rock...Joplin, AC/DC, Van Halen, Seger, bands of that nature. I also like Prince, always have since his first album. Oh, plus ZZ Top, Bowie and.38 Special. I stripped to quite a few of those bands' songs lol.
-
I also like Prince, always have since his first album.
have you heard anything from the 2 new albums he recently dropped? With "Plectrumelectrum" Prince fronts a girl rock band ("3rdeyegirl") - and boy do they rock. The other one, "Art Official Age", reminds me of "O(+>", with an array of tunes from rockin' to r-n-b and some great funk. I've barely listened to Plectrumelectrum cause I've really been grooving on Art Official age.
Since you've been laid up, have you have the chance to catch him on SNL from last week?

Mickie, I had no idea he was on SNL! I wonder if it is on "on demand." I'm going to have to check it out. I have not heard either of his new releases. I can't think of anything he's done that I do not like. Well, if I went song by song I'm sure there are a few. Prince hardly ever disappoints.

I didn't catch it till now, Prince can still rock, nice performance ...
My music taste is very eclectic, I like it all... Lately been listening to chanting monks, goes great with morning coffee :D
-
The Dead, Allman Brothers, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, the Stones. the Doors...Also Dylan, Leonard Cohen, the Mamas and the Papas, Fleetwood Mac, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Chet Baker...Also like softer music on occasion like Kitaro- Oasis to mellow out. And classical music now and then, nothing wrong with a little Mozart!
Hugs to all, Jody :)
-
Oh yeah, the Allman Brothers, thanks Jody. Also BB King, Buddy Guy, Clapton (best concert I've seen), Stevie Ray Vaughn. Oh, and Marshall Tucker.
-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0yWTr2mGUk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0yWTr2mGUk)
if yall like the brothers, the drummer for these guys is butch trucks' son, duane
they play in atl next month, may go see them
-
Elton John and Bruce Springsteen were also great live in concert. And though I never saw her live I think kd Lang did the best version of Hallelujah ever.
-

Love all things Zeppelin and KD Lang ... she is a gift to the universe . The happiest I ever saw KD Lang was standing in the shadows singing backup with 5 other singers for Roy Orbison .
I am not familiar with the band that covered the Zep song ... will fic that .
-
Loved her with Roy Orbison ,her Shadowland cd is one of my favorites.
all Santana ,Linda Ronstadt , she was so diverse , could sing anything.
Have everything Ella Fitzgerald , She's timeless
Stevie Wonder , Oletta Adams , Sting , Tears for Fears ,
Gotta love BB King , everything Blues

To lay this body down!
And must my trembling spirit fly

A land of deepest shade,

The dreary regions of the dead,
Where all things are forgot.
Soon as from earth I go
What will become of me?
Eternal happiness or woe,
Must then my portion be!
Waked by the trumpet sound,
I from my grave shall rise;
And see the Judge with glory crowned,
And see the flaming skies!

Zach!!! - Augh, man! You gotta post a warning note when you put a song up like "Elephant" in a link. Geezus, I'm weeping openly at 5:50 in the morning. Helluva song, helluva start to the day. Wow. Need more coffee...
-
Update: I've had coffee. Feel better. I love how music has so much power to move one's soul. Few things can really touch us like that. What an amazing song he wrote.
Though it's not about HIV, I've always considered Tori Amos' song "Crucify", the lyrics, to be my go-to song for emotions about dealing with this stupid disease:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ipCKIxdHTs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ipCKIxdHTs)
"Every finger in the room was pointed at me,
I wanna spit in their faces, but
Then I get afraid of what that would bring.
Got a bowling ball in my stomach,
Got a desert in my mouth,
Figures that my courage would choose to sell out, now."
...
"I gotta have my suffering,
So that I can have my cross.
I know a cat named Easter, he says,
'Will you ever learn?
You're just an empty cage, girl,
If you kill the bird'."
...
"I've been raising up my hand, drive another nail in...
Where're those angels when you need them?"
-Tori Amos

The Drums - I Hope Time Doesn't Change Him
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43sBH18E6dE
The Drums write, record and produce all of their material on their own record label. They even design their album sleeves and merch. Their album from last year, "Encyclopedia" to me is the best thing I've heard in a long time. The songs are so good that I had a hard time deciding on just one.
The guys in the band also have their own projects that are very worthy of attention :
Jonathan Pierce - Home

Nice, simple, upbeat love song.
Cascading Slopes (Jacob Graham)

Jacob's album is a collection of folk songs he wrote from a Quaker perspective performed on old analogue synthesizers.

Thanks Zach and all you guys for the music suggestions. I couldn't agree more with you Zach, your original post that is, music can be so very powerful in healing, expressing our innermost thoughts, escaping, protesting, making love .....
I sometimes get annoyed with the money some musicians make, but then I want them to be rewarded for what their creativity has given to the world.
PS My world is often very silent, so when I do get to listen it is so very special.
PPS Try out some stuff from Alison Moyet? This House eg.

FUCK DONALD TRUMP for using a Queen song to walk onto stage, a platform that opposes same sex marriage, and equal rights for all. A running mate who mangled the biggest outbreak of HIV in decades, and tried to divert HIV funds to conversion therapy.
The irony is incredible. We are the champions indeed. I can only hope he is made to eat those words come election day.

The wifey surprised me the other night. She said we were going out for a little date. I didn't know where, I was just along for the ride. It was a rough day at work, and I was beat. We stopped in to a little dive bar, that had one of my favorite beers on tap, Apt 12. Then we crossed the street to a little old theater, and before I knew it I was sitting there looking/watching one of my teenage crushes, Belinda Carlisle, belt out the Go Go's classics.
Such an awesome night.

just saying
and forgive please forgive if she ever heard this I wonder if she would be angry or think nothing of it ? or just crack a small smile ?

just some speculation.
they are a branch of the mennonites
who came from dutch country
the puritans in order to be free left england across the english channel and stayed for a while in dutch country
were the two similar ways of thinking influenced each other
then they the puritans made plans to go to the new world aboard the mayflower
as far as giving something some thought . the united congregational church a protestant church I believe of the puritan pilgrims who came to america . feel free to check this out and correct any errors . have a lot in common with the mennonites in some ways ? my own faith I went to a congregational church in new england as a child. the mennonite I have always given their ways a lot of thought and in some way envy their dedication to their way of living .
I really like the quaker way . I do not want to put you off by going on to long .
wops too late? .

sorry I was going to modify the previous post '
the early days of the colonies in what is now the US .
they had these places called shaker villages . hippy communes before such a thing was a thing . worth thinking about . as I understand it they got the name shakers because they would hold exercise groups . where they would line up and dance . more like an early version of aerobics where they would as a group exercise kind of like calisthenics before that was thing . the name shakers came about from this .
I thought worth mentioning.
to bad comunes got a bad rap
shaker s must have been something to see from way back when
they were credited with the first known small packages of seeds in envelopes sold in markets for small home gardens .
of course the production of shaker style furniture and houseware products like mass produced brooms and the like . came from shakers settlements I bet everyone already new that so sorry to waste your time by bringing it up
I just wonder what they sang while this was happening and what it sounded like ? must have been quite thing to be part of

Soldier On Lyrics
Soldiering on woman, you're always true to form
Just keep on pushing your shopping cart through the storm
Most people buy it, but you feel it's one that we can no longer afford
You stopped believing in our story, you say it's way too short
Ain't nobody out there as brave as you, you're holdin' your own
A million different voices that are trying to break you just listen to one
The one that's inside you, and soldier on
You're governed by the winds that reign
You armed yourself with a flower chain and a broken cane
Nobody cares how you feel like they think your heart doesn't bleed the same
We wouldn't hear the truth if it cried in our faces
Ain't nobody out there as brave as you, you're holdin' your own
A million different voices that are trying to break you
Just listen to one
The one that's inside you, and soldier on

One of the silver linings of this lockdown has been musicians self posting on YouTube. No lights, no make up... stripped down to it's raw essence, just songs from the intimacy of their living room.
Very much in keeping with the spirit of this thread. Music bringing people together in our isolation. Healing

One song that I play all the time now is from the 10000 maniacs called "dont talk". It causes all kinds of feels.
I was listening to soft music a few days after I was diagnosed. And that song came on. And though it's about alcohol abuse I felt it fit my situation at the time. I was angry, sad, and surprisingly apathetic at the same time. The two verses below were especially meaningful especially since I kept telling myself then that it was what I deserved.
"Don't talk, I will listen
Don't talk, you keep your distance
For I'd rather hear some truth tonight than entertain your lies
So take your poison silently
Let me be, let me close my eyes"
Don't talk, let me go on dreaming
how your eyes they glow so fiercely
I can tell you're inspired
By the name you just chose for me, now what was it?
Oh, never mind it"
After I heard it I felt so much better. No more taking poison and no more choosing names for me because never mind it.
I've always liked natalie merchant but it was at that moment I really loved her

Haha technically I'm Albanian by origin but grew up and have been naturalized in Greece, people treat us as Greeks and I would be proud to say I'm Greek.
Well,to answer the questions: Athens is the capital of Greece,it's has about half of the Greek population living there. Sparta is a city in Greece (in the area of lakonia) I've been there when I did my army service and I didn't like it haha. Lesvos and Rhodes are islands located in the Aegean on the eastern side (I'm on an Ionian island on the western side) and it is said lesbians are named after the island (Idk why haha). Ε,Ζ,Η,Θ (epsilon, zita, ita, thita). I would say 3 look like fish α,ρ,β. Η,Ι,Υ (sound exactly the same) Ο,Ω (sound the same too).
When it comes to ancient philosophers I don't remember much, because we did these on junior high school.
I know a lot about music, since that's the only thing I did as a kid (listen to music),because I had no friends and my parents weren't at home,so I would listen to music (mostly American music) from 50s to early 10s to classical music. I even used to play the tuba at age 9 to 17,but gave it up because it was too much haha.

Haha Well, that's Latin if I have to guess (and probably means "creme de la creme"). We have a saying here in Greece about Rhodes " ιδού η Ρόδος,ιδού και το πήδημα" meaning here's Rhodes and here's the jump literally, and is used to taunt someone who boasts to prove something if they can.

male female what about hermaphrodites who is to say that now they are rare in the future there might be the majority. they will look back at us as some archaic savage world that thank god no longer has a narrow close mined grip on either or yes or no cut and dry black or white . that there is more to even straight lines cut through circles that there is always something left that can not be cut directly through the center and split in half there is always something to prevent such a a thing . like the exception that proves the rule .
was thinking about the classifications of the sexes male and female . i was asked by therapists if I Had ever had sex with another man ? define MAN , I knew some women more manly then most men and some men more girly then most girls , hard to pin down some times what is right and wrong left or right , I thought the question sexist nun of their business either way and should not be asked what if out on a date and a man asked asked a women for her sexual history would she answer . a gentleman never kisses and tells ? like what if I asked this therapist if she had molested as a child and if she secretly enjoyed it ? non of my business , I should not ask such a question and neither should they ,
so in law justice and how people get treated, if you want equality first the stringent hard drawn lines have to be not so tight and the world I would believe would better for this,
what do I know ?

in my own life my mother brought me to a shrink as a young child .
the overly driven psychiatrist trying to help people through their problems
her mother destrot over a thanksgiving diner with her family hung herself from the dining room chandelier. when the shrink was a young girl about ten.
then many year later after spending thanksgiving with my family she went home and hung herself . history repeating itself over and over then over again
their is no shortage of sadness in the world , the same happenstances recurring
over and over ,
when I hear the name of this doctor makes me think if I had said or done something maybe she would not have killed herself ,
that is just a name and like so many they are plentiful .
problem being the sadness seems to never stop , but neither does the joy

vincent van gogh the lost ear ,
gogan was sharing his apartment with him ,
they argued over art bills philosophy and everything ,
one day while Vincent was shaving they got into an argument most likely over bills
Gogan most likely said your rich brother pays your bills I should not have to pay my art work will be very valuable some say .
your stuff is never going to sell
while Vincent was waving his razor getting angry he most likely waves it at Gogan who grabbed it and in the struggle Vincent's ear was cut off
when the investigation got under way , Gogan said he did it to himself you know crazy people are like that thus the story stuck and Vincent got labeled a crazy person . Gogan walked free with out any guilt thinking he was so smart .
just wanted to ruin the whole Vincent did it to himself thing to show what others say can hurt you

a song to calm the savage breast
graphic three dimensional analysis of a song
a song is like a bowl full of emotion captured in music
the bowl is full of calming or other emotions
if you take two up lifting songs and place them over each other you have captured a complete emotional state to be presented if they are of equal value you have captured a complete emotion ?
A good dj or playlist , will place a couple of uplifting songs then a slow song . to control the emotion in the room, by feeling it and guiding it to the desired out come . of people having a good time ,
does that make sense ?
EM
sorry if this does not make any sense ?
like i said before people looking back will say YA we knew that
people now will say , what is he talking about ?
graphic analysis of emotional states
if you would like I could give some examples of captured complete pairings of emotional states put together to inspire uplifting thoughts
or I could just go away and let you ponder the secrets of the universe unanswered
EM
the two Shania Twain songs capture a complete emotion , justs saying
the wheel in the sky , take a ride on heavy metal , a complete emotion
JLo waiting for tonight , love don't cost a thing , large emotional content
played paired together the emotion felt is twice what one song can do ?
again sorry if this does not make sense ,
some day in many years to come if life grows instead of withering and dying
this might could be the better world everyone is wanting hoping dreaming the future might be like
sorry if my over education on math has lead to some conclusions that are hard to understand .
all the best to you
a lost soul trying to find redemption in a life lived in fear and trying to make sense of everything .
all the best to you

but most things in life are just bubbles of information , what you put in them determines the size. when the bubble burst ? that is life nothing lasts forever

A good dj or playlist , will place a couple of uplifting songs then a slow song . to control the emotion in the room, by feeling it and guiding it to the desired out come
bull crap. :D the best playlists have nothing but banging hi-NRG tunes one after another. No slow tunes for me. I want music that's going to keep me pounding away on the treadmill, pushing my mower, or sweating my ass off on the dance floor (or the bedroom 8) ).
I got quite lucky this weekend. My husband, a huge movie buff but not a fan of musicals at all, actually sat through not one, not two, but three musicals! Moulin Rouge!, The Greatest Showman, and Mama Mia: Here I go again. We started Les Miserables but after the first couple of slow long drawn-out songs, neither of us could go on. LOL I suggested we try the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas or Little Shop of Horrors, but the hubby said since I have seen, and sung through, each of those movies a thousand times or more (literally!) that I wasn't allowed to play those until he goes back to work on monday. LOL
Right now I'm still grooving on the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman (talk about pop-fluff though. while I really liked this movie, the soundtrack is definitely no Dream Girls or Phantom of the Opera), but my favorite songs are on Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia - an album full of bangerz
Dua Lipa - Hallucinate

people now will say , what is he talking about ?
complete sentences not fragments, whole ideas and not random stray thoughts, and staying on-topic would be helpful to some of us who try to understand what you're talking about.
-
fragments of thoughts drifting through my mind
float freely in and out of time , and that is the crime
mind twisting from here to there and everywhere
people now will say what is he talking about ?
I know I will not live to see hundreds of years in the future but my guess is our limited way of our day to day lives will be looked back on as primitive ,
just like we look back at those before us as being not as good as us ?
even though it is our own arrogance that leads to this conclusion.
we are always going to be the same . just different that is all

Trolling, flame-baiting and going off-topic.
I've given plenty of warnings at this stage and other members have also rightly called you out on this. I could fill a dedicated thread with the warnings, reminders and examples from the past few weeks.
Really I've had enough of you posting comments designed to provoke a negative reaction and the hijacking of other members threads in the progress.
7-day ban from the forum.

Its been a miserable week for sure here in Portland.
The smoke from the fires were so bad, seeped into my
house, and into our lungs, leaving an itchy irritation and
ashy taste in my mouth.. and outside was worst.
Yet we in the city were the lucky ones bc the fires didn't
reach us.
Today it rained, and I didn't smell that smokie nastiness.
I don't think in my entire life I was ever more grateful to
get rained on.. :)

With all that's been going on (in the world and in our lives),it's easy to be sad and give up.
However,I choose not to do so. Sometimes I think "oh man,the universe keeps messing my life up",but I realise that I'm no longer a child and I don't have to complain and be sad. So I listen to these songs ,give the universe the middle finger and live my life as best as possible.

Simon & Garfunkel: Sound of silence
And in the naked light, I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sound of silence

I’m feeling particularly vulnerable lately.
Not sure it’s the usual melancholy that Christmas tends to bring to life or my new medication playing with my brain. Or the end of the year approaching...
Getting my dx and entering in my 50s a couple of years back really opened my eyes to the fact that I won't be here forever. Something I had never really considered before. Trivial as it sounds, yet...
Maybe the typical middle age crisis, on steroids.
Sorry for the macabre tone. Today it goes like this...

Its quite interesting that most people with chronic conditions feel that way during festivities (because we talked about it in nursing school). However, fret not my friend because age is just a number (although im aware of the difficulties of getting old) ,so life is to be enjoyed.

Depressed people tend to suffer more during holidays. I've been an involuntarily customer of that bitch for a very long time. She's like an unwanted guest craving attention but if I just ignore her, she retires to her room and I can continue to attend to my stuff. Well, I'm working on it ;)

Where in Greece have you been ? Come to the island in from (zakynthos).
-
Oh... Many places, more than I can remember. Mostly in the Cyclades islands and Peloponnese: I liked Sifnos, Naxos, Amorgos, Folegandros. I'm takiing 20+ years ago, the places still retained a spark of genuine soul. Don't know now.
Athens, many times. Liked the Akropolis and the national archeological museum. I.was passionate about ancient Greek history and mythology, so fascinating. Forgot everything now :-)
Then the Peloponnese: Epidaurus, Mykenis, Olympia... Paralia beach near Pilos 8) 8)
My memory is so bad, I had to look up places on the map.
We were young, free, healthy, just a backpack and a tent.
Never been to your island but I know it by reputation, must be awesome!

Hope everyone is doing well ❤.

I really liked Kelis, it's quite awful how the music industry today only goes for really bad lyrics or generic bubblegum dance pop.

U2/Mary J. Blige - One
https://youtu.be/ZpDQJnI4OhU
Is it getting better?
Or do you feel the same?
Will it make it easier on you now?
You got someone to blame
You say, one love, one life
When it's one need in the night
One love, we get to share it
Leaves you baby if you don't care for it
Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's too late tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One!
Have you come here for forgiveness?
Have you come to raise the dead?
Have you come here to play Jesus?
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much? More than a lot
You gave me nothin' now it's all I got
We're one but we're not the same
Well we hurt each other then we do it again
You say love is a temple, love a higher law
Love is a temple, love the higher law
You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holdin' on to what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love, one blood
One life, you got to do what you should
One life, with each other
Sisters, brothers
One life but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other..
One..

How did you manage to upload a blank file ? Don't you guys have to have some Proctoring software installed on your laptop/computer, so that your professor/proctors can monitor what the students are doing during the exam (check for fraud)?. At the Uni i am working at, we follow "live" the students taking their exams. We are also constantly sending them reminder pop ups when we see that they have not attached or properly named their Excell or Word files to the exam. Students are given a specific time slot to make their exam, exams submitted beyond that time are not accepted and declared invalid.
Good luck with your studies

No,my professor is stuck in the stone age. I did ask him today and he said he "will see what will do" but from his reaction I got that he wont check it,so I'll have to have the test taken again in september, which sucks butt......

I've heard "96 tears" so many times on oldies radio 📻, I've always liked the tune, kinda reminded me of some Stones/Monkees, Punk Bubblegum hybrid.. but never gave it a thought to who did this 60's tune. The band's name is "? and The Mysterians", and that name alone raises some eyebrows especially that long ago.. how could I have missed this?
The music video was from somewhere in the 90's so the band had gotten a little age on them by then.. it's also a little weird, but a good weird and queer 🤪

Wow,that surprisingly fits a lot more 🤣. Speaking of covers I found a nice one of a song I also listened to when I was a teen. It says a lot of innuendos that I didn't understood back then 🤣.

The entire early 2000s and 90s era of alternative songs was so much better than today. Everything sounds too polished, too electronic today. I was listening to this one in the morning after work:
Phantom planet - California
https://youtu.be/wq-S8CIU7VA
-
I had never heard that one fabio, it's nice.
Late 70's and 80's was the era i thought had the music I loved the most.. but that was when I was young, so I'm biased to that time.
Recently saw the lyrics to this new wave song which I loved.. I wasn't aware of what the dude was singing about..
Pete Shelly - Homosapians

The music video that I remember that was played on the jumbo screen at the club was this.. https://youtu.be/2HwmO_GZfzI
Guess I really wasn't paying much attention

Here's a Song of the Day from me. Typical of tunes I listen to when lifting weights in the gym
Bolt Thrower - The Kill Chain https://youtu.be/x9snwv5wFBg
Now put that in your pipe and smoke it! lol :) I'm guessing there's not too many heavy metal fans on here?

Oh Yes! Heavy aggressive music really pushes me in the gym. In fact I am heading there now for 9.30pm tonight. Now it would be easy to stay in the couch, relax & be lazy so the thrash metal music gives me to energy to hit the weights hard.
However I also like 1990s dance music, and I even like 70s Disco music too. I got a good mix on my Spotify list which mixes it all up with the metal stuff too for gym or jogging.

I dropped the gym membership about a year and a half ago when covid shut everything down. Even though I'm triple-vaxxed now, no way do I want to go into that kind of space around here where masks are considered useless at best and unAmerican at worst. ::)
So I've spent the last year walking/running the large park across the street from where we live. My go-to playlist is an eclectic blend of NIN, KMFDM, Pet Shop Boys, Madonna - and oddly, commercial music. literally music from commercials
C.U.T. - Fabulous
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCYG-35r6D0
Mason - Fashion Killa ft. Stefflon Don
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gcd8WMiiHvo

KMFDM
I mis-saw this at first it thought it read The KLF and Depeche Mode. LOL.
I love PSB and Erasure. I think a lot of gay guys our age do. Have to!
My first boyfriend introduced me to PSB. I think Behaviour is probably my favorite album TBH. I know Andy Bell is poz, and I have often thought Chris Lowe at least was, if not Neil too. I guess in the end it doesn't matter. I love them all regardless and have no litmus test. But PSB tends to be more of a cerebral synthpop, and they experimented more to my liking over the last 40 years. ;-) I literally have everything both groups have done.
-
So in honor of ABBA's new album coming out... I will share with you my favorite ABBA song...
"The Day Before You Came"

Man I haven't had a gym membership in years. My gym is my bike. While I got lots of different playlists, I do prefer and find I get better workouts to punk rock.
Rage Against The Machine - Fist Full Of Steel

Beastie Boys - So What'cha Want
I think about being almost 52, and how someone like Adam Yauch got that rarish parotid cancer and died so young, and he did not have HIV. It's a real thing how a serious illness (like having AIDS) can put one to thinking about mortality. And yet, we certainly have no guarantees in life even without HIV, do we?
Adam was a practicing Buddhist and a real gentleman. Smart as hell and took what he did very seriously.
Check Your Head is my favorite album of theirs.
RIP Adam.

I mis-saw this at first it thought it read The KLF and Depeche Mode. LOL.
I love PSB and Erasure.
My first boyfriend introduced me to PSB. .... I literally have everything both groups have done.
LOL
those sound like my yard work playlist: KLF, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Smashing Pumpkins, Blondie, Sophie Ellis-Bexter, Dua Lipa, Garbage, ABC, Gary Numan.....and Prince, lots and lots of Prince.
I still use an mp3 player (though I have upgraded to bluetooth earbuds last year finally ditching those damn cords) because my 1TB ext hard drive is about 3/4 full of music I've collected through the years. Pop, Rock, musicals, soundtracks, instrumentals/ambient, and everything in-between.....well, except for country. The only "country" music I have is either what I'm storing for my partner's mp3 player (he really likes country, but I love him anyway. LOL) or the music of Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.
My first tattoo was the face from the liner notes of Prince's 1999 and the "When Doves Cry" video. My first partner and I opened a pet store in 1986 (the year Please came out) and we were the "Pet Shop Boys". The Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream" and NIN's "Broken" were the first "rock" albums/CDs I ever purchased - before that I was just an 80s pop/dance geek. I literally have everything by PSB, NIN, Prince, and the SP.....along with every Beatles album which came from my second partner.
The Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
https://youtu.be/d1acEVmnVhI
I don't know what Billy meant with his lyrics but, released the year before my first partner passed away, these lyrics really spoke to he passed away and then again when my second partner passed 14 yrs later.
Disarm you with a smile
And leave you like they left me here
To wither in denial
The bitterness of one who's left alone
Ooh, the years burn
Ooh, the years burn, burn, burn
I used to be a little boy
So old in my shoes
What I choose is my voice
What's a boy supposed to do?
The killer in me is the killer in you
My love
I send this smile over to you
Prince & The Revolution - When Doves Cry

I have been thinking a lot recently about the guy I was a volunteer buddy to when I was in college. Here is his grave:
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/72113857/john-kelly-cooper
John was 34 when he died. He seemed and looked so much older. He was so f*cking ravaged after fighting for so long. I had forgotten until recently just how young he was when AIDS took him. He had gotten a second degree in art as a kind of second career doing what he liked and had quit his passionless engineering job. The manufacturing plant where he worked has long since gone out of business too.
John's death really affected me at the time. I was a basket case then, and I had to stop doing volunteer work because of it. I am not sure I would fare much better now.
I remember all the guys I met back then doing AIDS volunteer outreach. They're all long gone now of course.
My partner and I met in 1992 doing volunteer work giving out condoms. That's the shame part of a lot of what I feel these days now that I contracted HIV after all those years negative. I knew so much better than to be risky sexually, but I got too prideful and am still naive in a lot of ways. That is a dangerous combination.
I guess we all have stories. That's life. There is no rhyme or reason to a lot of things, and hindsight is always 20/20.

It must have been really difficult to part ways with a person you care for and know for so long. What matters is that you were there for him and he left knowing that someone cared and, believe me, that matters a lot.
The fact that you remember him even makes his story live on from you. If only most people were like you.
Do not blame yourself about the status, things sometimes just happen, all people make mistakes (both minor and major),what matters is picking yourself up and fighting the good fight, waking up and enjoying the ride. This kind of reminds me of the odyssey where the journey is what matters and not the destination (its also from the alchemist, one of my favourite books).

Foo fighters - Everlong

Just to cheer us all up on a Friday morning. It's only 10.00 am here & I've already had a very stressful discouraging start to to the day. My 12 year old acting up being real rude before school, then I opened my work emails & lots of frustration & disappointment (biz is sales related so always 99/100 rejections & knock backs) , damn wonderful not. I've been getting it in all directions in life the last few months...feel like there's a hex on me!...anyway..
This song always cheers me up & lifts my mood & energy vibration.

I love George Harrison, so my pick of the day is something off his spectacular 1970 album, All Things Must Pass:
"Isn't It a Pity"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIbVWNy7HBk
Isn't it a pity?
Now isn't it a shame?
How we break each other's hearts and cause each other pain
How we take each other's love without thinking anymore
Forgetting to give back
Isn't it a pity?
That whole triple album is incredible, and I cry every time I listen to it. It is right up there with John Lennon's Imagine album, but I like it better. :-) Phil Spector produced the album, and although Phil was a horrible human being, the gem George and he created with others is undeniably genius.

Chet fell out of a second-story window in Amsterdam within a year after this video was recorded. The autopsy found coke and smack in him. Not a young man, but an old addict for sure. I'm always amazed Chet lived to be as old as he got to be.

Jenny said when she was just five years old
My parents are gonna be the death of us all
Two TV sets and two Cadillac cars--
Ain't gonna help us at all
Then one fine mornin' she puts on a New York station
She don't believe what she heard at all
She started dancin' to that fine fine music
You know her life was saved by Rock 'n' Roll
Despite all the computations
You could just dance to a rock 'n' roll station
And it was alright!

so you know when you hear a song, and then you put it on repeat for, like, forever?
well, I spent my weekend, when I wasn't going to two Christmas parades in two days in my small city and a neighboring town, baking Christmas cut-out cookies listening to an Erasure playlist a thousand times (it takes forevvvvver to cook and decorate 4 batches of these cookies), and I decided I really love of the sound of "Storm in a Teacup"
https://youtu.be/wwr3Wx0K0Pw
I started off this week at the gym though stuck thoroughly on a totally different song by Keiynan Lonsdale (he was in "love, simon") - Gods Of The Disco
https://youtu.be/fvSerO6Xzg0
I've got this song on repeat and got through it three times before I had to get off that damned elliptical machine. (ugh. getting healthier suuucks) I did almost fall off the elliptical halfway through though. LOL
I was texting a friend about this older woman (she used to go to the planet fitness we all went to in another city) who was here in the new planet fitness in my town. She and I had been friendly for a while but had words one time which clearly, by the glares she's always giving me, were still stinging after several years. My friend couldn't remember who I was talking about until I described her as the wiry-haired lady who's a bitch. A few minutes later, I glanced at his incoming reply: "she's a whore". Not only did I bust out laughing so loud that everyone turned to look; but I whacked by head on one of the handles and nearly fell off the backwards off the treads. What's the damned machine tell me? "Pedal Faster 20...19...18...17" ;D
ok. since I've interrupted this song thread with my gym story (but did I interrupt? I did post 2 great songs? Ha!) here's another gym-related story
So I'm checking out in the grocery store where the cute bagger boy is chatting with the older cashier woman while I'm getting my items rung up. He glances at me, nods, smiles, says "nice hair", and tells the cashier that he wants to do something with his hair and really likes mine.
I get this allll the time from "kids". ugh. I sound old saying that. I'm mean I don't look like I'm about to be 60; I'm active and personable; and I've got this faux-hawk going on, often with a stripe of some colored gel across the tips. It seems everywhere I go (amusement parks, parades, the gym, stores) there's always somebody (always in their teens to thirties) saying something nice about my funky hair. And it's not even the amazing coco-cola red that I had it dyed a few years back. LOL
As I walk away, after pleasantries from both cashier and bagger to "have a nice day", I could just hear the bagger quietly speaking to the cashier. "Nice hair...(pause) and a nice butt too," he says ??? :-[ :P 8) of course after telling my husband, now he won't quit teasing me about my nice butt, and every trip to the grocery he's trying to figure out which bagger it was. Thinking about it all, I guess I don't hate the elliptical as much as I thought did! ;D ;D
here's another song I'm doing on the elliptical now

LOVE ELO!
Sadly never got to see them. My 2nd late partner took me to see McCartney, Bowie and Prince, and we had tickets to ELO (2006 or 07) but they canceled and never rescheduled.
don't know why I'm so chatty (or is it "type-y"?) but here's one more story today, and it's ELO-related.
I was raised very fundamental Baptist, and Rock-n-roll was the devil's music. Of course by the time I was 16 and working in fast food, I was starting to find out there was more to the world than just hymns and psalms. A co-worker friend got me "out of the blue" for a christmas gift. Although I kept it well hidden, only bringing it out to play for my younger brothers after school at home with no parents, eventually my dad found it.....and broke it over my head! BTW Jet albums are very thick vinyl and take 3 solid hits to a skull before cracking. Three months later, my friend replaced that album for my birthday. Unfortunately my new hiding spot was no better than the first, and this second album was soon destroyed the same way. It wasn't until years later, when my first late partner surprised me one birthday, remembering the story I told him way back when we were first dating, with a CD version that I still have over 2 decades later.

Went to get my labs done yesterday and the technicians had some hip hop music playing. Young people may think of me a prude, but I really didn't think it was a good idea to play hard thumping music in that environment.. think it should've been something soft, don't care what kind as long as it's mello, or nothing at all.
It was weird cause the tech who took my blood said to me she hated that music.. I just shrugged and thanked her for taking my blood. I was already stressed so I didn't want to talk about how inappropriate I thought it was.
On my way home, turned on my radio and this old love song played.. really didn't realize just how beautiful a love song that is, and how old I've become.

Shake Your Sillies Out; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwT5oX_mqS0
Yesterday I kept hearing Caelan (My disabled Son) say, "Shake your willy out" and I keep telling him not to get his cock out.
Did not realize until the evening it's from a song he is trying to sing/copy; "Shake your sillies out", so not his willy. However, Caelan has now learned to say "forfucksake" & "Cock" 🤣😭
-
"forfucksake" & "Cock"
OMG I showed Larry that on FB yesterday and we laughed so f-ing hard. ;D ;D
I would say this is yet another reason I have dogs not children LOL Buuuut...
I do have this puppy who can't help but to shake the sillies out all the damned time (oh how I miss those puppy naps she used to take when she could fit in my hand); and when we anthropomorphize her voice and thoughts (like I've done with all my puppers), she already knows and says all the naughty words. ROFLMAO
when I had my pet store, my first partner and I had a cockatoo (there's a joke in there somewhere about 2 gay guys with a pet store and a cock or two) who learned to say f-k. It might have been my fault. 8) It was equal parts humiliation and hilarity when customers came into the store. ;D
well, that was different. I googled for a song with cockatoo in the lyrics and found one that I'm just not posting here. nope nope nope. Instead here's the incredible Lenny Kravitz doing Fly Away (and not showing his cockatoo. LOL) https://youtu.be/EvuL5jyCHOw
