Don't do what I did
« on: August 12, 2011, 05:14:09 pm »
This is my first post, but I've been lurking for few months.

Thanks to this site I went and got tested yesterday. I thought I did some stupid things on a trip to Asia several years ago, and was really scared to find out if I got infected. I convinced myself that I had all the initial symptoms and I had to be positive. I went on like this for several years.

Well, after reading posts here, I knew that the risk of what I did wasn't that great and you guys here convinced me to go and get tested.

Well, you were right, I'm negative.

However, I'd like to tell people like me something - get tested. That's is the only way you will be sure. Over years I developed severe anxiety that was affecting my life at home and at work, I neglected my health, gained 50 lbs, and generally was miserable.

Today everything changed, I am free of this burden over my head.

Thanks Again!!!!

That's great news about your having tested negative.

And you're absolutely right of course that if there has been a real risk the only way to know for sure is by getting tested at the appropriate time.

Enjoy that peace of mind you have now and protect your status by always without exception using condoms for vaginal and anal intercourse. Those are the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.

Good luck to you.

Thank you for reply, and helping me get through this. As I said, although I didn't post on here before, the advice I got here was very valuable to me. I think I would have continued deteriorating with my health, not because of HIV, but because of mental anguish.

It's a great site you have here.

Looking back on what happened with me, I noticed that alot of symptoms that I "experienced" that I though were HIV related were actually anxiety related. If one looks up symptoms for anxiety, there are hundreds of them, and they can mimic any diesease. You can talk youself into having something that is really not there.

Everyone that had low risk of exposure that still thinks they became positive, needs to get tested - period.

Thanks again and good luck to all.
