The Iowa Straw Poll results are in:

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/08/13/7366544-bachmann-wins-ames-straw-poll

Bachmann up top, followed by Paul and Pawlenty.

Santorum in fourth, meaning he'll probably keep yapping for awhile.  In somewhat of a suprise, Romney only garnered 3% of the votes.

The snakes and the snake oil they are offering the voting public is slithering through the woodwork.  What a bunch of characters, with a frightening ideology.  Almost a scary as that picture of this Bachmann!!!

Wait until Texas Governor Rick Perry starts getting actively engaged.  IMHO, the man is pure evil.  Mean-spirited.  Full of himself.  And yet people seem to eat it up, or at least the Republicans in Texas do.

In comparison, George W. Bush was just a dimwit.  Rick Perry is calculating, slick (and I'm not just talking about his hair), and really knows how to bend the truth to his advantage.  He'll tout all the job growth in Texas, which has some truth, though that is not organic job growth as much as it is business relocation from other sates.  But you'll never hear him talk about Texas' crappy healthcare system, where it has the highest percentage of uninsured people (25%).  Or how our public education system consistently ranks at or near the bottom when comparing outcomes among all 50 states.  He also loves to use his veto power.  And he'll have no problem throwing GLBT folks to the wolves.

Of course, all this was true when George W. ran for president, and he got elected.   ::)

I've seen some speculation that the Republican field is so far to the right that it's unlikely any of them would be able to topple Mr Obama at a general election and that the real battle will be for control of the House.

Would that be an accurate assessment? Or does Perry pose a real threat should he emerge triumphant from the Rethuglican Primary?

Perry's marketing team is astoundingly good. They could sell lube to the very queers they loathe and underbus-throw. Don't underestimate them and him. Thye are on top of everything, putting him everywhere, and that's why he's been governor of Texas since 1973.

If the economy doesn't improve my paranoid side fears one of those Repubs could pose a threat . Rick Perry will certainly carry the south in the primary election over Romney in my estimation .

Outside of the South they'll just think Perry looks like a bad used car salesman or a televangilist and not vote for him.

Going by the press and news media you'd think the tea baggers and republicans control everything, are destine to win against Obama, and that Obama is toast.
I thinkest not.
Speaking of iowa and all the political hoopla, it's more like mass media political boredom.
We went to the iowa state fair. They had these huge glass jugs, each with the names of every candidate running, including Obama.
Note on the counter said "put a quarter in the jug of the candidate you support".

Bachmann's glass jug had maybe $12 worth of quarters. Perry's even less, and so on.
But Obama's jug?
Half full with not only quarters but dollar bills. Probably $200-$300 worth.

The same at the political party booths. A small crowd around the democrats booth. Not one single person at the republican booth. And the three folks working the republican booth looked depressed, borde and sducidal.

I think president Obama can take his getaway vacation as planned.

What is Bachman doing in that picture?  Pulling out beard hairs?

Ms. Bachmann had a starring role in the Montreal Gay Pride Parade today.  A section of the parade was condemning the use of religion to demonize anyone and there was this huge poster with her picture and the words, "she believes gays do the work of Satan" and she is a Republican Candidate for president.  There were many posters, portraying some of the most demented leaders in history, with Michelle, right where she belongs.
