No offence taken regarding the "shoe" remark. In my talks with her I was kind of pushing her into getting the eye removed. But I realised that its she that has to live with her disability. If her "looks" are the only thing she has left to hold on to...who am I to say different.

I was born and raised in The Netherlands and live near Amsterdam. My parents now live permanently in Curacao, and I have an aunt living in Aruba. I travel two to three times a year to the Caribean to visit them.

          ojo.             @ grasshopper, thanks for your reply. As a matter fact, the reason why it took me so long to get rid of my blind eye, is precisely the possibility of the phantom pain but, The pain that  I was getting was unbearable and daily so I decided to go under the knife. Now, after two months of my surgery, I am getting pain,, the same page that I used to get before the surgery, but it is not that often. Tomorrow, I will see the surgeon and see what he has to say.… Now, I’m not sure if I want to get a prosthesis or just wear an eyepatch and look like a pirate. I have a friend who wears an eyepatch and looks cool. My friend lost his eye since he was a three years old baby. She got an inoculation surgery. I think the surgeon took the whole eye out in my case, it was an evisceration, where they just took the iris, pupil, and the inside of my eye leaving just the sclera in, The white part of the eye.… Well, it is what it is, let’s see what the doctor says tomorrow… I am sorry I said that somebody has to be in somebody else’s shoes to know to really know what he/she is going through. Again, thanks for replying, and have a good trip. I think you live somewhere in Europe, don’t you?…hugs

Yo, I read what you posted three times and see no reason for PEP whatsoever, or even testing outside of the yearly routine.

I think you would benefit and should consider PrEP going forward.

Look you have started PEP now, it's done, so continue the course of PEP and out-of-procedure test six weeks after finishing PEP with a blood draw (lab) HIV antibody test. A non-reactive result at that time would rarely change, and retesting at three months is generally unnecessary.

Yo sorry for not speaking clearly as Ingles is not my primary language.  I reread what I wrote and forgot to mention the condom on the floor was broken.  I do not know if it was his condom or someone who used room prior.

My aunt was warned by her surgeon about the possible phantom pain if her blind eye were to be removed. She still has the eye in, causing continuous infections in her tear ducts. She is also very vain ...at the age of 70....and worries about her appearance if the eye were to be removed. She eventually lost sight in both eyes, but only one is problematic. I am not the one walking in her shoes, so I have decided not to bring up the issue anymore and just listen. Next Friday I'll be crossing the Atlantic again and will see her soon.
Hang in there....if life gives you lemons make lemonade  ;)

               ojo.          @ grasshopper. By the way, I was carrying my blind eye in a glass jar as you suggested on previous post. (I got my blind eye removed on march 19) and sadly, I’m still having the same pay. I used to have before the surgery…. it is what it is. Life goes on…hugs

               ojo.             @grasshopper, yes, 12 blocks each way , when you  are almost blind, one eye with only tunnel vision and seeing everything blurry and foggy, bad cornea, and walking on uneven sidewalks, crossing busy streets, dealing with dogs, it was an adventure, thankfully when I got into the pharmacy, where I couldn’t see anyrhing but the
De Pharmacy’s employees helped me get my mom’s meds…I guess I have to keep going places so I can’t start losing my fears…I walk my dogs, well, now just one dog, around the block several times a day, although I know the route pretty good, uneven sidewalks, where to dock down because of tree’s branches, wrc., etc., you know how bad somebody has it and did you put yourself in his/her shoes… thanks for replying… Hearts.

I read what you posted three times and see no reason for PEP whatsoever, or even testing outside of the yearly routine.

I think you would benefit and should consider PrEP going forward, as in addition to providing an additional layer of HIV prevention PrEP would also give you some peace of mind.  Most commonly people take daily PEP, but there is also event-based PrEP, talk to your healthcare provider. https://i-base.info/guides/prep/real-life-examples-for-on-demand-dosing



1) PEP is highly effective, 90% or better when taken timely and correctly but it will not prevent 100% of HIV transmissions. Of course, if people don't take it correctly it will not be as effective.

2)Yes, it's not the newest combo. 3 drugs + 1 booster.  (Elvitegravir + tenofovir disoproxil fumarate + emtricitabine & cobicistat)

3)Sometimes

4)Meaningless. I have never seen a whale, but they exist if I believe the nature documentaries.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV and get vaccinated against HPV, Hepatitis A & B.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Do I Have HIV? / PEP Effectiveness

Hi All - glad I found this forum.   Seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the internet.   I was at a bathhouse and hooked up with a guy where I had receptive anal sex and gave him oral after the anal.  He put a condom on before we started having anal sex.  He kind of abruptly ended and when he took the condom off, I could not tell if it was intact or broken (was dark).  I was worried it broke as he didn't finish and was still hard. There was no ejaculation inside me.  Because I could not tell, I went to sex clinic here and they started me on PEP (Stribild - 1 pill a day); I took my first pill around 12 hours later (+- 60 mins) after the hookup.   I have been taking the pill everyday around the same time (+/- 30 mins).

1.  How effective is PEP?  I read around 80% but that seems to consider people who take it later than 24 hours, have additional exposures or dont adhere to taking it.
2.  Do you have much experience with Stibild?  My research shows it is a 4 drug combo and seems pretty good.
3.  Do you see a lot of cases of PEP failure?  I guess hard to know PEP success as maybe person was HIV negative or wouldn't get HIV anyways.
4.  The sex clinic said at end of treatment, they will do an RNA test at 12 days stating they have never seen one change that was negative.  a 4th generation at 28 days and another 4th generation 2 months later for final confirmation. 

I did test for Gonorhea and Chlamydia for both oral and anal and was negative.  Will test for syphilis at 6 weeks post exposure.

Really hoping that he was negative (as he seemed intent on wearing a condom) or that the PEP works.  Thanks for all the assistance and have a great rest of weekend.  Sorry for any stupid questions.
