Lymphocyte Count
« on: June 24, 2009, 08:09:58 pm »

   Hi,

This is my first question and I do appreciate the work you all do, my story starts in Sept 08 and during very hard circumstances because of loosing my best friend I got Shingles then my life became like hell all the time thinking of HIV. my last risky exposure was in 2006 with a woman of unknown HIV status.
recently I did the HIV1/2 test and the results were Negative but my questions are:

1- I did the test after 2 months of using Acyclovir so do you think that acyclovir may interrupt the result and caused false negative?
2- In spite of the fact that I tested Negative Shingles is still ON they don't hurt but I feel them, anyone had the same situation? What could be my problem?

So please I need your opinion in my case.
Thank you in advance.

1. NO
2. Shingles are very painful. See your doctor for your concerns they are unrelated to HIV.

What could be my problem?

The problem is you have shingles, or at least had it, it's not rocket science,  as Rapid Rod said shingles is very painful, if you are not having pain then it could just be a rash from something else..NOT HIV..so go and see your Doc again and get it cleared up.

Shingles is not an HIV symptom, my husband has just got over a bout of it and he is HIV negative.

pan,

Acyclovir will NOT affect an hiv antibody test.

It's not unusual for a person to be able to feel where the shingles rash was long after it's gone. That's because shingles infects the nerves and can damage them. It's called postherpetic neuralgia. Talk to your doctor to find ways of managing this problem.

This is NOTHING to do with hiv. You are conclusively hiv negative.

Thank you all for your replies, but I think you misunderstood what I meant to say, I wanted to say that I still have the RASH it's my 8 months and I still have it  :( I do believe that something is going on in my body but I don't know what is it! I don't know if I should consider the rash which I still have it as one bout or many bouts. it's never left me since September 08. SO any suggestion? I guess you may change your mind after reading this but please tell me shall I trust my test results?!! Am I late seroconvernt? I did the test 3 times and every time it's Negative. I am really disappointed.

Pan,

I suggest you go to a doctor to find out what sort of rash you have. The shingles rash doesn't usually last for more than than three or four weeks so you might not even have shingles.

Regardless of any symptoms you may be having, your hiv test is conclusive. The ONLY people who MIGHT take a little more than three months (most seroconvert by six weeks, as I already told you) are people on chemotherapy for cancer, anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant, or people who have been injecting street drugs, every single day, for YEARS. Even within these groups, seroconversion later than three months is RARE.

I did the test 3 times and every time it's Negative. I am really disappointed.

You're disappointed that you do not have hiv? Wow. Just wow. I'd give almost anything to not have hiv. Get a grip!

Work with a doctor to find out what is causing your rash. Whatever it is, it is NOT hiv. You do NOT have hiv.

Hi everyone, I do appreciate the work you all do and since I found this site I have learnt alot and today something came to my mind so I decided to ask you guys about the lymphocyte count, I read before that ppl with HIV tend to have normal lymphocyte count so does that mean ppl with low CD4 count will again have normal lymphocyte count? I wish you would understand what I meant to say  :)
again thank you all for your efforts and time and thanks in advance,

Pan,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Why are you worrying about lymphocyte counts? You're conclusively hiv negative. You don't have hiv and I don't have time to explain stuff to you that you don't even need to know.

YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. Get on with your life.

Well, thank you Ann and believe me I stopped worrying about my problem since a long time nowadays I have a new outbreak, it started to hurt me as I can see the rash in some other areas on my body. Now I am afraid to pass the virus to the children in my class  :'( next week I am going to see a dermatologist so let's see what will he say.

   Again thank you,

You can't pass "the virus" to anyone because if you're referring to the HIV virus, you don't have it. You've conclusively tested negative for it.

Whether you are willing to believe it or not, whatever is going on with your symptomatically has nothing to do with HIV. Period.

Good luck with getting it accurately sorted out with your doctor next week and finding the real cause of your symptoms.

Pan,

And even if you WERE hiv positive, you're not going to "pass the virus to the children" in your class unless you're having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse with those children. If you're having ANY type of sexual contact with children, you should be locked up.

Now stop going on about this. You do NOT have hiv. You never even told us what you consider to be a "risky exposure". Unless you had unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, you weren't at risk in the first place. Going by your worries about passing the virus on to children, I'm guessing you didn't even have a risk at all. You seem to think hiv is transmitted through casual contact and you couldn't be more wrong.

You are VERY close to being given a time out. If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

We focus solely on HIV here. Anything else you're concerned about has to be addressed by your doctor.

You have reliably tested negative for HIV so whatever is going on has nothing to with HIV. Period.
