Question: What is ONE word that captures the essence of where HIV/AIDS needs to go or is today to YOU?

honestly, I would agree with ALL the words mentioned. Having lived with this for some time, I've gone through stages where any and all of the previous words could have summed up some period of my live with AIDS.

However, I can give you one word not yet used:
Death

this disease brought death to nearly every friend I had in the early 90s
Twice it tried to kill me, but the hospital doctors and newer drugs barely saved my life
However, it did succeed in bringing about the death of not one but two partners

every day that I'm alive (and right now I'm actually healthier and feeling better that I ever have in over a decade), I can't help but notice that my partners are dead; so underneath anything else that I think about it, I am quite sure that AIDS=Death.

I have two words.
I guess the one word that everyone is missing so far is right in front of our eyes.
POSITIVE
the second one is:
LUCKY

I'm positive that:
My blood is bad.
Life is far different today than it was before I found out I was sick.
That I can't beat this but will manage it the best way possible.
Pills will be needed to keep me alive.
HIV/Aids meds will keep improving and make all of our lives better and longer.
That I will have good days and bad days.
At some point I will have more bad days than good.
The number of HIV and Aids cases will grow as kids today don't see it as being a death sentence but a manageable disease much the same as diabetes. Sad but true.

I'm lucky that:
I read the article in the paper (one I would have not normally read) that listed all the symptoms I had leading me to get tested.
I live in a city that has great HIV/Aids testing and medical services.
I got to see an Aids specialist on his day off the day after I was diagnosed.
I have great support groups that are there to look after all my needs when required.
I found this website with great people that have and share a wealth of knowledge. They also give a ton of support to people that they don't even know.
My health is still good where OI's are concerned and overall I feel great.
I got funding for my drugs.
I got subsidized housing in about 7 weeks instead of the normal 7 years.
My family (even my homophobic brother in'law) are 150% behind me.
I truly have the most amazing & generous friends in the world.
The internet is what it is. All the knowledge that is known about HIV/Aids is available with the click of a mouse. Some of you could be my next door neighbour or could be half way around the world.

Above all I'm positive that I have the will and strength to fight for life.
I'm lucky that I was able to live today the best way possible and that I would have no regrets if my life were to end tonight.

Today the word is "Explosive D" but that's because I've had this every fucking morning for the past 10 days, and just today figured out it was because I had the brilliant idea of using Xylitol in place of sugar so that I could peel off 5-8 lbs to appease my sense of vanity. Unfortunately when I bought this I didn't realize that diarrhea is a common side effect, and I guess combined with Norvir it was triple the effect.

because from life's perspective, this virus is incredibly successful at perpetuating its lineage

because that is what my meds are when keeping the virus under control. They are not perfect but if it wasn't for their success I would most probably be dead by now

because it is what we, people living with this virus, all are. By living one more day with this predicament

My vote is for FOREVER, today. Tomorrow it most likely will be something else.

I would also like to say I keep ALL of my friends, lovers, acquaintances and strangers known to have died of AIDS or any other disease or accident alive in my mind, memories, heart, soul or whatever you would like to perceive "it" as.
