There's A Book For That...
« on: May 31, 2011, 11:47:37 pm »
So I'm on the train earlier sitting across from this guy who was really engrossed in this book he was reading.  Finally I got to see the front cover and couldn't believe it...

And it just doesn't stop there.  Apparently there's a market out there for these things

I've read a few of the Dummies books.  I find them helpful when you are new to a subject and want to learn the basics. According to wiki there are over 1600 books.

Not sure about books but I know of a few web sites that have worked for me in the past.

I forget the exact titles but there were two that got me through some particularly heavy bullshit courses in college: Freud for Dummies and Marx for Dummies.
Those post-structuralist professors were always asking for Marxist "readings".

These kinds of books are useful but I guess it depends on the particular edition, if the author gets the basics correct, or not.
