Title: Worried about freak accident. please help
Post by: wanttohelp on November 28, 2009, 01:02:15 am
first i need to say its a blessing i found this site because i have been on the verg of complete breakdown. Earlier this week me and 2 friends we in our local video game store. it was packed because of sales and everyone was shoulder to shoulder and bumping into eachother. i had my back turned to the crowd when suddenly i felt a SHARP prick on my lower back as someone bumped into me. it took me a second to process it and respond and when i turned around no one was there. i walked up to my friend and he was like dude it looked like that guy poked u in the back with something. i panicked and left. now im wondering if this guy stuck me with a syringe full of hiv + blood or other fluid wat would happen.

Frankly this is all nonsense. It's about what ifs, fears and anxiety and nothing that is grounded in HIV medical science.

Whatever may have occured you did not have a risk for HIV transmission. Period. You are worrying needlessly. We're not going to regard this as if you had a genuine and for real risk.

Cut out the drama and get on with your life.

A better use of your time would be to become more informed about the real risks for HIV. Read our lesson on Transmission. There's a link to it in the Welcome thread which opens this section.

Cheers.

Thank you for your response andy and im sorry i keep posting but you can get me over this right here right now if you just answer my questions and i wont be back after that. The next day there was a small red mark and it was sore where i got stuck. my best friend told me it looked like someone stuck me with something. Now, if he stuck me with a syringe or needle with hiv+ blood in it and if he had done it too other people too how would i not be at risk of infection? please andy just answer and describe this to me and im gone. i wont come back here anymore.

Even if you did get stuck with something there still wouldn't have been any risk for HIV transmission. Sharing of intravenous needles is what is risky and quite different from what you have described. HIV is a fragile virus and not one easily transmitted.

What you are expressing is a not uncommon occurence (and fear) and one from which I have never known of a confirmed case of transmission to have occured.

Let it go and get on with your life. And if you can't, then discuss it with a therapist or other such professional. This is not an HIV situation no matter what your fears are telling you to the contrary.

I mean this with all sincerity when i say it Andy, you are a great man. Its just, im ignorant on the subject of hiv and wish to be educated. You have taken so much of my anxiety away with your response. Its just my lower back where i got stuck stung and burned for like 2 days and all i could think was like the blood from the syring is running through there and causing it too burn, idk. Its just weird that you say i cant get it like that. I mean the blood would be safe from the air in the syringe and not die and i didnt know this was a common fear. do ppl really get purposely poked with crap all the time?

I've said what I had to say about this subject. And I've told you to read the lesson on Transmission if you want to learn about HIV.

Anything else going on in your thoughts about HIV I recommend that you discuss with a counselor or other professional.

You did not have a risk for HIV transmission and that's it.
