How quickly can CD4 drop
« on: February 26, 2007, 10:23:29 pm »
I was just wondering about how long I can wait until my next doctor visit :-O....i was supposed to have my labs done this week and go to the Dr. March 9 but just my luck my health insurance is having "issues" with me saying i didnt turn in a paper (although i did so im not worried but im suspended until they solve this problem)....labout 2-3 months ago my cd4 were 339 and VL 1690 or something like that.

I know this can vary from person to person and there probably is no answer to my question as to how quickly you can go from being "ok" in my range to "screwed" with risk of OI's.....

Do you think 1-2 months more without seeing the doctor is going to make a great difference or should i fork out the $$$$$ out of pocket until the insurance issue is resolved....

Btw I quit my job :'( because i was being treated poorly (not because of HIV status but because the boss is a dick to everyone)....so $$$ is a bit of an issue at the moment hehehe

hope everyone is having a good night  :-* ;D

I don't feel that you will suffer from not knowing for 1-2 months. 9-10 months maybe, but not such a short time. It is normal to have viral load testing done minimally every 3 months and if you had a sudden rise in viral load you might not do anything about it until the next test that confirms any trend. That's my opinion but you could phone your doctor to ask their opinion. In fact I would do that. Opinions are free (or they should be).

NB. Any advice about HIV is given in addition to your own medical advice and not intended to replace it. You should never make clinical decisions based on what anyone says on the internet but rather check with your ID doctor first. Discussions from the internet are just that - Discussions. They may give you food for thought, but they should not direct you to do anything but fuel discussion.

You aren't on meds., so there is nothing helping keep the numbers where they are.  Your last labs were done at the end of December, so the end of March would be 3 months since then.  But if you go over to Wesley's thread, about his concern of having dropped substantially (which we all hope is due to lab errors, not from anything else, and he, too, is not yet on meds.) I hope that you can balance concern about not knowing with knowing but paying directly.  Best, Win
Winthrop Smith has published three collections of poetry: Ghetto: From The First Five; The Weigh-In: Collected Poems; Skin Check: New York Poems.  The last was published in December 2006.  He has a work-in-progress underway titled Starting Positions.

actually that thread is what made me worry hahaha....im sure 1 month wont hurt until i qualify for the "reforma"(medicaid) for the time being .....im a bit confused about the options here because 1/2 the people are on medicaid and the other half get other types of help.....but theres a lot of crap going on here in Puerto Rico from mismanaged funds so im not sure my best approach ....i just know im going to fight my current insurance to get reinstated but i want a backup plan hehe
