Apocalypto

Saw it. It went to No. 1 at $14 million. Good reviews generally.
I thought it was a brilliant but brutal masterpiece. My brother thought it was a ham fisted bloodfest.

Heard one reviewer say he thought it could have used an NC-17 rating due to the violence and that some people were walking out of the theater.  He still thought it was a good movie but could have been done as effectivlely without all the gore.

And I wished for guidance, and I wished for peace
I could see the lightning; somewhere in the east
And I wished for affection, and I wished for calm
As I lay there - Nervous in the light of dawn

^ I know, Mel Gibson meets Oliver Stone ( who often uses shock and violence to "wake the masses up"). Don't watch it if you have a weak stomach.

Every movie Gibson directs is filled with gore and blood letting. Must have something to do with that kooky religious sect he belongs to. I find him tedious.

I've ignored Mel Gibson ever since he started sounding like Fred Phelps, which was years ago.

*  Does anyone associate the Mayan prophecy of the "Turning Of the Ages" in 2011, or is it 2012, with what this film was trying to get across ?
