Title: Unprotected intercourse help
Post by: lh8198 on March 04, 2024, 03:39:38 am
Sorry for my bad english. I've had an unproted sexual intercourse 28 days ago with a girl. We both test at 28 days 4th generation test and the result is negative. Is that reliable and conclusive

Hiya,

28 days with a lab 4th gen test is a good indication, but retest to confirm your HIV status at six weeks post-exposure with a blood-draw (lab) HIV antibody test. The six-week result will rarely change, and retesting at three months is generally unnecessary.

Also, get tested for easier-to-transmit STIs.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim

You should retest to confirm your HIV status at six weeks.

Next time use condoms.

Hi. After 48 days me and my partner both did a duo test and the results are negative. I also use PEP. Is that result conclusive

If you took PEP over this incident then test to confirm your HIV status six weeks after finishing PEP with a blood draw (lab) HIV antibody test. A non-reactive result at that time would rarely change, and retesting at three months is generally unnecessary.

If you post in sections of the forum designed for people living with HIV again it will lead to a 28 day ban.

All you need to do is test at the appropriate time. No drama required.
