Heating bill
« on: March 01, 2014, 03:53:59 pm »
Just curious how much everyone's heating bill increased lately.  I completely don't understand my latest bill.  We've had the same frigid cold this entire season and the gas bill has been running around $150.  Which I thought was high considering It's set on 50 most of the time except when I'm there and I turn it up to 60.

Today, I rec'd the latest gas bill; a whopping $450.00!!!!  I will be using the fireplace more often in the future.

With a jump that big in the bill I would at least call and ask for an explanation . Hope its not a leak but you would have smelled a leak that big I bet  .

The only thing that uses gas is the furnace and I recently had it serviced.  They pressure tested the lines when I had gas installed as it hadn't had any for 3 years.  I'm hoping it's some sort of clerical error as that just seems crazy.

Hell, my mother keeps her home at a toasty 90 degrees and never sees bills even remotely close to that and her entire home uses gas; stove, furnace, fireplace and hot water.

Ahh! that happened to me when I 1st moved to ABQ, I had a $398.56 bill for a 1200 sq. ft. 2 bedroom condo I was living in, I called the gas & electric co. to complain about this as my monthly bill would only be $117.60 per month...

So they told me that they'd send someone out
to come and reread my meter(s) turns out that it was a mistake, but I had already paid the bill so for about 2 to 3 months they credited me back the $398.56 and I didn't have a bill for about 2 to 3 months...

woofy, they do make mistakes all the time, so call them, and you just might be surprised if it's actually an error  :)

That's certainly what I'm hoping happened.  I might have to borrow from my flooring fund just to pay the bills... :(

There's no way that can be right.  Is there a Real Services there, or it may be called Council on Aging?  Here they will do free weatherization for low income households, even if you're a single person.  I would check into that to see if that's available there.  In the meantime, I would raise hell.

Unfortunately, I can't do anything until Monday.  I'm going on the premise that something is wrong.  I don't know of any programs to help but this property wouldn't qualify anyways since it's in mine and my brother's name.

Did the secret meth lab next door tap into your line?

That's interesting you said this as I noticed something strange in the neighborhood while taking a stroll.  There is one home that doesn't have a gas meter.  They've resorted to putting a flex tube to allow the flow of gas.  That's bold!!!  I wonder if they know when the meters are being read and simply remove it around that time.
