worried
« on: March 06, 2007, 12:04:49 am »
I was with a few asian female escorts in 2006.  The last was in the middle of October.  All encounters entailed protected recptive oral and protected vaginal.  I don't think the condoms were compromised, though I cant say for sure becuase I did not examine them.  I tested NEG at 89 days and though I was home free.  I am worried again now becuase at 130 days my wife has a rash on her shoulders that is itchy and one of them has a little pus.  She also said that she was sweaty at night and that it was normal for her after a weeked of drinking booze.  She also has said that she has a loose stool.  No fever as I made her check a few times.  I am worried that my worst fear is coming to light.  Can anyone give me feedback as to these symptoms?  Also I went to test again today, but the lady said since I used protection I have no reason to test.  I am very worrid that I caught hiv and passed it to her.

Its not who you are with but rather what level of risk you experienced. You haven't had any risk for HIV and your 89 day test has conclusively demonstrated that.
Whatever is affecting your wife has nothing to do with HIV. Stop projecting your fears that you may have placed your wife at risk, it simply isn't the case.

What I do see is a lot of self guilt here and maybe a little self examination of your actions because you went outside your relationhip. I can't help you address those feelings but can advise that you are conclusively HIV negative.

Thanks for the reply.  I will probally have to tell her to aleviate my guilt, but I am worried that I will put her at undue stress just so I can 'get over it'.   Thanks for you responce.

eamon,

Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection, with or without a condom. Not one person has ever become infected through getting a blowjob and you will not be the first.

Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv transmission. There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one. This shows us that condoms prevent hiv transmission.

You did not have a risk for hiv infection. Your feelings of guilt do not change this fact.

So I just conquered my fear of HIV with a 132 day - Home Access test after using a local sex worker.  Now just the other day I go to get a haircut at my barber and as he is shaving me (with a safety razor, not straight) he puts a 1/2 inch gash in my neck.  Gash is an exaggeration...  However, I did not notice right away but noticed he was touching his hand to the back of my neck.  Then he says I nic'd you.

Chances of HIV from him?  Chances of HIV from the razor itself containing another's blood?

EA, get off of that slippery slope you've been on about HIV.

You had no risk whatsoever during this tonsorial incident.

Your time would be much better spent reading our lesson on Transmission. There's a link to in the Welcome thread which opens this section.

Had protected sex with sex worker very briefly. She removed the condom and it appeared to be intact. Then with a tissue she wipes the a red dot or something from the head. I asked her what was up and she in very poor English said that it was from her storing in in her bikini top, or something like that however it may have been blood. I asked her, did it break, and she said no, don't worry. I would think she would have shown concern if it was compromised, which she did not. I realize chances are slim to none depending on where it was intact or not. My thoughts are that she is a pro so she knows how to protect herself and in doing so me. What do you guy think?  Should I use PEP?

Looks like you added to this post from the other one you posted. You didn't have a risk and you don't need to test and you sure in the heck don't need PEP.

Thanks for the reply.  I guess my concern is that she may have been bleeding and gotten it in or near my tip during the removal of the condom, or that it got their though a small break in the condom.  Hotline said their is a small/remote risk.

True that there is almost no risk. Why don't you better talk to a Dr so they will tell you if it is really need to use Pep. I know we are all experienced people but i also think a Dr opinion will make you feel better right?.

On a personal side.... i wonder why people keep on using sex professionals?? If it is known they are exposed to a very high risk, i just can't understand it. I know we all who are not sex professionals (we are just amateurs) are not free of risk, but i mean if you know you fear hiv.... why do you get into the wolf's mouth???

Think about it again and next time i hope you can do something different in your actions not to feel afraid afterwards.

Plus learn more about hiv, the more you learn about it. The easiest will be for you to prevent it and burn away all the fears. hugs

If the condom had any kind of a breach you would have known it. It doesn't happen with teensy weensy little holes except in a worried imagination. In real life it's quite apparent when a condom has broken because suddenly it appears you are wearing a fringed hula hoop on your johnson. Really.

Your worries are really all what ifs which is a slippery slope to get on to. Let it go and get on with your life. If we had any doubts believe me we would tell you so.

Cheers,

Actually reputable sex workers use condoms everytime they see a client and are usually a safer option than some drunk pick up in a club. It's not correct to suggest that just because someone is a sex worker that they are more likely to carry STD's than other groups in the community.

Well Matty, what i said and what you say... is just circunstamcial. It depends on where you have been and who you chose and how lucky you are.  Off course this is my personal opinion but i think people who are more sexually busy (if you follow me) are exposed to higher risk.

True that some of them are very well protected, but thats a minority..... So as for me, going there is fall into the wolf's mouth, just my point of view.

Andy, Rod etc---

I am trying to keep my mind off the slippery slope of 'what ifs'....

If it was her menstual blood that appeared after the condom was removed on my 'head' from either broken condom or the removal process (dragging the blood from base to tip).... Would that consitute a high risk?  Would it have to be more than a drop?  Or is it that I was covered during the act and shoud not worry about any fluids after the deed was done?

Is this the same kind of risk where if two people mutually masterbate and their fluids are "swapped" so to speak in open air there is no risk??? (per medhelp)

BTW it could have been lint or something like that and not blood.

I suppose I am asking this last round of questions becuase I am nearing 72 hours and want assurance that I don't need pep.  BTW my doctor is useless for anthing other than diabetes and endocryn system stuff.

This is still your mind working very hard to scare you with a bunch of what ifs. No, you don't need PEP nor do you need to get tested.

What you need to do is to stop obsessing about this and get on with your life. You weren't at risk. Period.

Really.

Sorry if I ticked you off Andy...  I have a hard time processing rational information when I get my worry on.  I will try to move on.  I think I will however do another Home Access at 6 weeks for my sanity and becuase my wife (im a scmuck) and I are going to try to repoduce towards the end of the year to the beginnning of next.  Any thoughs on my getting a STD workup based on this protected encounter with a chance og fluid migration?  I might be refill a script for Levaquin that I use for sinus infections.

I have been reading a lot of posts on this site and another one called medhelp recently.  I have a few questions as they pertain to my most recent 'risk'.

1)  In 2 responces from the moderators on this forum I have seen that it is no risk to have someones infectious fluids on you genitals and urethra (rod said you can uses vaginal fluid as lube, Ann said semen can be used as lube during mutual masturbation with no risk) as long as it been exposed to air.  How soon after the fluids leave the body are the rendered inert?

2)  Can infectious fluid be trapped inside the condom after having a woman put it on with her mouth?

3)  Must there be a cut or abrasion in the urethra to transmit?

I have been experiencing a sore throat lately which has me concerned a bit... However not fever.  I am at 14 days since my 'risk'.

I do feel a little silly after reading about serodiscordant couples that have had great success with condoms, like Ann and another guy who wrote in...  Is it basically the case that men very rarely acquire hiv from heterosexual sex due to reduce mucous membrane?  I have read that some clinicians have never or rarely seen a man become infected via hetero-sex.

Along with telling lies, people drink excessively or drug and don't remember as accurately as they might otherwise. People also have shame about these and various other matters. So if and when they do test positive, some have a habit of shaking their heads and saying things like, "I can't understand how this happened."

The best thing for you instead paying attention to hearsay and stories is  to focus on being responsible for yourself and your own actions.

That translates into avoiding mixing excessive drinking and/or drugs with casual (unprotected) intercourse.

Cheers,

Eaman,

It really is about time that you started paying attention to the advice you're being given here. You weren't exposed to HIV from the encounter you described. Not only that you've been told that symptoms mean nothing when it comes to diagnosing HIV and that in any event we don't discuss symptoms in this context.

It's time you moved on from this. We can't help you any further.

Just received a 4 week negative...  Can I bank on this in regards to the most recent incident?  Is it about 85-90% accurate?  That is what I have read.

In your case it's 100% because you never had a risk to begin with.

eamon,

I totally agree with Matty here - you didn't have a risk of hiv infection and so you can consider your test result conclusive. You do not have hiv. Keep using those condoms and you will remain hiv negative.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

supras?

My newest question is about polyurethane condoms.  (I know I ask a lot, and it is for the same reason as the last several)

Trojan Supras to be exact.  Other than being a pain to roll on, they work pretty well (for me).  They use a poly material branded 'micro sheer.'  On the box it says the efficacy of these condoms in the prevention of hiv and other STD is unknown, due to lack of studies.  I know poly is a good way to protect ones self, but does any one know about these condoms specifically?

Also, what is the propper way to remove a condom???  I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I am worried that her stuff is going to migrate to my male pee hole and xfer STD/HIV etc.  Also, can a tissue used in clean up after the act, cause fluid migration & infection?

Thanks in advance to the people of this site that are so generous with their time.

eam,

My partner and I use polyurethane condoms and he remains hiv negative.

If you want further condom information, including how to use them, then click on and read the three condom and lube links in my signature line. The website the top link goes to even has a video on how to put one on and take it off again.

What is the time frame for ARS and Seroconversion Illness?  I did not see them in the lessons.  Can it start as soon as 5 days after exposure?
