Stop the Cuts! SC Rally for a Moral Budget - Mar 12th
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:25:49 pm »
A growing number of churches, educators, grassroots groups and professional organizations are calling for a rally in Columbia to demand that lawmakers "Stop the cuts! Fund a moral budget." The rally is scheduled the weekend (Sat. March 12th 1:00pm) before the House is to debate the budget.

Join the emergency call for a moral budget in South Carolina. Our political leaders claim there is no alternative to further cuts to critical state services. We believe there is an immediate and fair alternative through tax reforms. A growing number of religious, community and business organizations are calling on the politicians to fund our values by reforming the state’s antiquated tax structure.

Go to the Ties That Bind website and sign the petition for a moral budget.

We were standing all alone
You were leaning in to speak to me
Acting like a mover shaker
Dancing to Madonna then you kissed me
And I think about it all the time

Curious what the TEA party sign said that everyone was trying to block.

"Not our problem" or what?
AIDS isn't for sissies.

our signs said "Stop the Cuts" and his said "Taxed Enough Already"

my middle brother is quite the Tea-partier, and while I understand their notion of a more frugal budget and fewer taxes on the middle class, they're busy trying to cut off our noses to spite our faces. We don't need to defund services to the most vulnerable (the old, the sick, the young) but we do need to raise revenue by equally taxing businesses and people in our state. There are 80 sales tax exemptions and 133 service exemptions. Why there's even a cap on sales tax so that anyone buying a yacht, plane or auto never pays more than $300 in sale taxes.
