Seeking Live Chat for HIV Positive Gay Men
« on: February 11, 2007, 03:54:37 pm »
HI,
I have been positive since last May.  I live in a place with very very few positive people and I don't know anybody who has HIV.  I would like to know if someone can recommend a live chat site for HIV positive men.  It would be nice to be able to talk to someone in a conversational way and not just on this forum.  Thanks for any advice.

I don't know who your Internet provider is but my email address is on my profile....
If you want to IM me or have a video conference...I'm up for it.  Just let me know where
and when.  I don't do chat rooms so I can't suggest anything of that nature but if you're
up for an IM...I'm more than willing.  Contact me by PM if you're interested.

I also can't help with a live chat source, but I know that SIN strengthinnumbers.org has a branch in London and you are in Northern Europe, so this might be of help.  They are a group which get together socially as hiv positive gay men.  Anyone listed in their Yahoo group might also be after live options.  Best, Win

Hi Koksi,

that is a very positive step you are making trying to connect to have a support 'home-base'.

sometime ago, there was a thread about SKYPE address, maybe, you like to ask the members here to share this with you; so you can be supported 'positively' outside of the forum. at least this way , you do have already an idea of who you talking with.

good luck and welcome.

Go to  http://www.13km.com

Click on the section option which says new...only because that one has the most people in there. There are alot of regs there, and they do get alot of newbies as well. When I found out I was poz over 2 years ago, that is the site that kept me sane. I do go there every one in a while, under a different name. There are alot of gay men there. Very friendly, all ages all over the World.

Check out that site and let me know what you think.  ;)

Hey Seven,

That was the first site I found a couple days after diag.   I wouldn't recomend it personally.   I found it was confusing to use and I got a lot of BAD info. on there that went unchecked cause I was talking with random people and no one else could see what they said to me.

I think the forumns have been the best informational site since someone will call you out if you're givng out misinformation.

But I also wondered if there were other chat sites for HIV+ individuals?   I've heard AOL has one, don't know if that's true?

Just my thoughts.

Hey Justin,

You know I'd be willing to pay for a decent one at this point.   Has anyone found any besides the one that keeps coming up?

The AOL Poz chat room is not that great. If you are looking for comfort, vent or to chat, I don't recommend the AOL poz chat.

I do not recommend aol chat either.  Yahoo has an hiv chat but there too there seems to be alot of drama.  Afew years back I use to be a regular in the hivdate chat room but got bored with that too.  I would suggest Just searching on the sites for people in your area and add them to a messenger like aim or yahoo to chat.

Thanks Justin!

I was looking for more of a social chat site.  Not the hook up bit, but just was wondering if there was one more for social/dating etc.

Lord knows I bitch and vent plenty here. ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the AOL site.  One of my other friends said it was sort of some hook up deal.

I guess I will not bother with that one.

Appreciate your feedback!

LOL, drama your kidding me Connie ;)   That's a great suggestion.   You know I am probably the only person who doesn't have any IM.   I hate when people pop up that I don't want to talk to.  I haven't had an IM in so long.   Everyone always asks me what my IM is and usually it's someone I don't want to talk to ;)

But, a great suggestion!

Wesley,  Easy solution.  Always log on as invisible that way if you don't want to chat you don't have too.  I am forever getting people who say "you are never on"  but i am always on just invisible.   ;)

Most of the HIV chat sites ie: AOL and GAY.COM are not really that good.  There was a post last year about people being in touch via yahoo or aol messenger, but a lot of folks on here scoffed at it.  I am always willing to chat with others.  Here are my chat names: dfenner2 on yahoo and DannIthaca on aol.

Check out thinkpoz.com.  Its a new site we have over a hundred member profiles and growing.  We also have a live chatroom.  Most of the time people stop there at night.  It's like MYSPACE...you make your own page...post videos, send each other messages...and yes, a chatroom with video and audio.  All free!

I've actually seen this site by Rajvir's posting.   It's very elaborate and I do have a profile on it.  It's very similar to Myspace.   It is indeed free.  I've no idea about the chat bit on it.

Philly,  what is an IRC?   And what would it take to set one up?

koksi,

what part of Northern Europe are you from? I'm from Germany and people from the south regard it as Northern Europe, too. However, people from way up north like Iceland would laugh at this assumption, so I'm just curious.  ;)
