I just have a question. I posted my question here because this is the only thread I was able to find coming from Filipinos.

My question is this. I noticed that 2 people (both from Philippines) said that their first test was negative. dyingYOUNG19 - NEGATIVE (Dec 2005), POSITIVE (May 2006). paolo10954 - NEGATIVE (June 2003), POSITIVE (Dec 2004). What could have caused this to happen. Did you test too early? Is it because the tests here in the Philippines are not reliable?

The reason why I ask this is because I was tested negative but because of what I read my fears started to rise again. I hope I do not sound too selfish, I just want some explanation on what might have caused your NEGATIVE to suddenly bacome POSITIVE.

Thanks! More power and God bless!

paranoid,

I deleted the post you left if the I Just Tested Poz forum. Please read our Welcome Thread and abide by the posting guidelines found there. You should NOT post anywhere other than this forum.

People who are sexually active should test regularly - at least once a year. The people you're worried about obviously engaged in a risky activity between testing.

As long as your test was done three months or more after your last incident of unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, you are conclusively hiv negative and do not need further testing.

I just have some additional questions. You normally say that we should test at 3rd month and confirm it at 6th month. What if I never tested at 6th month and only tested at 17th month and 23rd month? Is that ok? Because I heard that it is harder to detect HIV at that point, the lab person that took my blood even mentioned that it will now take years before we can detect HIV. Is that true or am I really paranoid?

Thank you for the reminder. I was confused about where to post my question. I should have read the guidelines, thanks again for reminding me.

The person at the lab doesn't know what he or she is talking about. Your three month test is conclusive.

paranoid,

You normally say that we should test at 3rd month and confirm it at 6th month.

NO! We NEVER say that!

The window period for hiv testing is THREE MONTHS. A three month test is all you need. A three month test is conclusive.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

Help again. From Philippines. Possible pinprick/needle transmission!
« Reply #5 on: February 02, 2009, 10:47:55 pm »
For days I have been so worried so I decided to ask the help of the experts. I can't sleep well, no appetite to eat and my relationship with my family has dipped greatly. Seven days ago (1/25/09) me and 2 friends went to a stripclub and was joined in our table by 3 dancers on the club. I know this should not be a worry for HIV infection if we just sat together, held hands, embraced and didn't have sex . However, on the next morning I noticed 2 pinpricks in my left arm. I'm not sure where they came from. It could have been there even before we went to the club or somebody might have pricked me with an HIV needle/pin. I was conscious all the time and it was not like there were moments that I can't remember except but the pinprick I really can't remember.

After 5 or 6 days I had a boil in my left knee and my left arm felt a bit numb. Are boils symptoms of HIV? My numb arm according to the doctor can be caused by high blood sugar but I've read that it can be muscle pain or fatigue which is an HIV symptom.

Please help. Am I worrying too much or is there enough reason that I should be worrying? Should I get tested? The thing is I can't test yet because as of the moment what happened to the club was just 7 days ago. Can I live my life normally again, without being too worried that I might infect my wife or other family members with HIV. Please I need your advise.

I can't even sleep with my wife and has invented all the weirdest alibis to avoid contact with her because of this. BTW, this site has helped me a lot and I really want to thank all of you.

Paranoid

I have merged your threads so please use this one from now on to ask your questions.

You are worrying over nothing, I think if someone stuck a needle in your arm you would have noticed, you are over reacting, and boils are not a symptom of HIV.

Thank you for the quick response. Can I forget about getting tested or would you still recommend it? Can I sleep with my wife now and have a clear conscience that I'm not getting her infected with HIV or should we use condom which i think will make her think something's wrong?

Also, is there a place in this site that helps people with coping with "HIV phoabia"? Thank you again. I have not slept for 2 days now because of this and I'm so exhausted with all the things that I've read online. I don't know what to do anymore.

Paranoid,

Unless you had UNPROTECTED anal or vaginal intercourse with someone at the strip club, you were NOT at risk for hiv infection. You CANNOT become infected just by sitting with someone, even if you hold their hand or kiss them or whatever.

You do NOT need to test. If you're worried about your boils, see a doctor. It's NOTHING to do with hiv. NOTHING.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse (outside your marriage), correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.

anniebc and Ann,

Thank you for your response. I guess I'm just concerned about the pinprick in my left arm. Up to know I'm still worrying sometimes. If you really think that I do NOT need a test then I won't. I'm in a monogamous relationship so I think aside from the strip club incident I don't have to worry about HIV.

What bothers me sometimes are things that I'm feeling (or imagining) like pains in my neck (which I think are lymph nodes), diarrhea (though I don't know if it was caused by my lost of appetite) and feeling that i will start to have a fever.

I will greatly appreciate any response and explanation (if there's any). Also, do you accept donations? Like PayPal or other payment methods? I just feel that I need to give out something also and not just the one benefitting from this site because what you are doing are helping A LOT of people. Thank you in advance.

See a doctor for your concerns, it's not HIV.

paranoid,

We do not accept donations. However, I'm sure your local ASO (aids service organisation) would be happy to accept a donation on our behalf.

Thanks Ann and RapidRod!

I don't know why I have this too much fear. Maybe it's because here in the Philippines HIV help isn't that easy to get. Also, I'm really starting to feel something in my underarm and neck. I don't know how to identify a swollen lymph node. Damn. I wish I could get tested because this is ruining my relationship with my wife. But my story only happened on 1/25 and it's not even a month yet.

paranoid,

Go see a doctor about your physical problems. It's nothing to do with hiv as you did NOT have a risk!

Once again, unless you had UNPROTECTED ANAL OR VAGINAL INTERCOURSE at the strip club, you weren't at risk for hiv infection. Seriously. If you had a risk, we'd tell you - I promise.

Ann.

Thanks for your patience. Actually, I'm not worried about contractiong HIV via unprotected sex because we never had sex in the stripclub. I'm concerned about the pinprick in my arm. I know I sound hard headed because of all the advise that you have given me I'm still worried. I hope you can appreciate my concerns.

I believe all of you but I guess we are not focusing on the pinprick which is what my real concern is. Thanks again.

Paranoid.

We didn't focus on the pin prick because it wasn't a risk.

I went to the doctor to have my numb arm checked and my boils but they weren't able to give a definite explanation. I'm back to my HIV scare. Is there a test where I can get an accurate result without waiting for 3 months?

No there isn't a test to take earlier and again you didn't have a risk.

Hello again everybody.
Additional question. Why are we not considering the pinprick as a possible hiv transmission?
I'm having diarrhea now at 2 weeks and according to you and the doctor I went to symptoms start occuring at 2 weeks after exposure.
Why are we not considering a pinprick a risk?

Whatever is going on with you symptomatically has nothing to do with HIV unless you have had some unprotected intercourse which you haven't mentioned. So you're HIV negative. Period.

You are obsessing about a "pin prick" that you are not even sure has happened to you. And in any case, a pin prick is quite different from having used/shared an intravenous needle for drug use. Even IF you were stuck with a pin, that is not a risk for transmission. HIV is a fragile virus and not easily transmitted.

Yours symptoms are something for you to discuss with your doctor. We can't diagnose their cause in this setting.  I suspect you are having some kind of reaction of shame and guilt about your nightclub experience which has resulted in blowing the pinprick thing totally out of proportion. Stop all of this drama and get on with your life. You do not have HIV. Period. End of story.

And I will further say that if you keep coming back here with the same non-risk complaints you are going to end up getting a Time Out. You have no HIV problem. Period.
