Insertive anal

Hello! Around 6 weeks ago i had unprotected sex with my bf, we were dating for nearly a year but since then i discovered he had lied to me and possible dating other guys. It was the first time we (or I, for that matter) had unprotected sex (we always did protected until that point), i was the insertive partner and i am cut. Next day he texted me and asked me about my HIV status , if I was sure I was neg etc etc because he was worried about getting something  (I tested neg in October in regular check up), and he reassured me he was neg in return.

Since 1 week ago i have developed the usual ARS symtomps, including a rash in my arms, my face and palms red,  flu like, etc... and i am extremely worried.  I had 2 other sexual encounters with other guys since then but always with condom.

I would appreciate your assessment on my situation. How long should i wait to get tested?

ARS symptoms if one has them come on 2-4 weeks post exposure and last 1-2 weeks. That being said, HIV has no specific symptoms and don't diagnose HIV. The only way to know your status is by testing. You can obtain your conclusive test result 3 months post exposure.

thanks for your answer RapidRod. I am just clinging to the illusion that being just once the probabilities are low, but i know it is deluding myself as once encounter is enough.  Trying to pass these weeks in the less worried manner, but honestly i am finding it nearly impossible.

Although there is risk for the insertive partner through unprotected anal intercourse, it is significantly less than it is for the receptive partner. And if we are talking about a single incident that further increases the odds in your favor against transmission having taken place if HIV was present.

Meantime you need to make a real effort to focus on other things in your life. You can do it and it will make the waiting time pass more easily than you may imagine is possible. If you get a negative result at  6 weeks then the likelihood is you will continue to test negative at 3 months for a conclusive result.

It sounds like you and your bf need to be using condoms consistently for intercourse until if and when you decide to be a securely monogamous relationship. You can only safely dispense with using condoms when that has been agreed upon and both partners test negative at a valid testing point.

thanks for your words Andy. I am in the negative mood with the whole thing, as i have all the symptoms, so I guess I was unlucky and got it. Good to know there are still some chances, however slim, of not being infected. It is the only risky situation I have found myself ( I have always done it with a condom till that day) - I have done oral and rimming unprotected a few times, that i know still carries some low risk degree, but never anal without condom. Are those practices increasing my risk? thanks for your reply.

Your fears and evaluations notwithstanding 1) your symptoms are not HIV-specific and 2) the odds remain in your favor that you will test negative.

Get on to other things until you get tested. Really.
