Chronic fatigue syndrome and weight lifting
« on: April 10, 2011, 07:30:14 pm »
Hi

I read somewhere that weight lifting should be avoided for people with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia...I think I m getting better and have more energy these last 10 days ..and I exercice and do weight lifting for 35 mn everyday...
I was ill with extreme tiredness and flu like symptoms in dec and started getting CfS  with sore throat and pain in my back  in feb....Now it is getting better..I also read that there is may be a retrovirus like hiv who triggers CFS...CFS ..I hope can be beaten...!!!!How long will it take ..I don't know. I hope this mysterious virus won't give me crappy  bloodwork.

ciao

Hi

I exercice and do weight lifting for 35 mn everyday...

It really isn't a good idea to lift weights everyday, mix it up with something else, like aerobics every other day you need to give your muscles a change to heal, every-time you lift weights you are tearing your muscles, and they need a time to recover,

I lift once every other day, or maybe even every 2 days, for about 45 min. ( I do them in sets) and do aerobics on my bike 9 miles every other day, and sometimes every 2 days, don't be afraid to MIX-IT-UP a little, do something different everyday if you have the energy, it's ok if some days you don't feel like it
I do that sometimes when my energy- level isn't in it's best form     GOOD LUCK  ;)

Hadas, most everything I've read about chronic fatigue and/or fibromyalgia said that one of the best things you can do to combat either is exercise. But like Dennis said, you need to mix it up a bit.

I do my main workouts Tues and Thurs nights and cardio Mon through Fri mornings.  If I don't have time to go to the gym for morning cardio, I'll go for a walk round the 'hood.  When I don't miss days and do my cardio routine every work day, I can tell a difference in how my clothes fit - looser.  Either walking or gym make me feel better, though, and I hate the rare occasion that I don't have time for either.  I'd definitely not lift every day.  Good luck with it.

If I had the motivation to use a home gym, that would work for me!  It's not a matter of being cheap; I work out in a class / group.  Otherwise, I just find a reason to do other things around the house.  If it was only for cardio, I'd replace or repair my stair-stepper that I've worn out.  How many people can say that they've worn out exercise equipment?   ;)

It's always funny, to me, how many people buy expensive equipment and then use it as clothes hanging racks, etc.  They then try to sell them and end up getting rid of them at garage sales or on the curb as garbage.  My stair stepper had been welded twice when I retired it.  Some of us are just more dedicated I guess.

I even have some kettle bells

I initially read this as "kettle balls" and had to google it. (Good thing I can highlight a term and right click for a google search.) I thought you were being kinky again. ;D
