The Case of Robert Rayford
« on: August 03, 2017, 04:24:40 pm »
I'm sure all of you are familiar with the peculiar case of Robert Rayford. I have been reading a lot about Dr. Worrobey's research, which is really interesting and exciting. He believes HIV first entered the US around 1970, mostly affecting the intravenous drug addict population in NYC. He says HIV didn't even get to San Francisco until 1976! That was very surprising to me. If the virus didn't get to the US until 1970, this does not explain the case of Robert Rayford. He died in 1969 but began having symptoms in 1966. His preserved samples were found to be HIV+ in 1987. His grandfather also had the same symptoms and died in 1966. His samples were never preserved for future testing, but I think we can assume he died of AIDS. We can speculate and speculate. It could be that they were infected by a Haitian traveler, and these were just isolated cases that never led to infection of others.

I think the virus has been here longer than scientists think.

Your thoughts and speculating theories?

InRecovery:  I've moved your post to the "Living with HIV" Board because the "Research News and Studies" Board is designed to discuss actual or ongoing HIV-related news and studies, not to postulate or pose various questions about HIV, etc.

I think the problem on that is the claims where never collaborated or published for peer-reviewed medical or in a scientific setting unless I missed something.

Not that it really matters i suspect, the odd early case in the late 60's or not you are here now.

Maybe Ronald Reagan infected him while shooting a Western in Robert's town.  This would explain why Ronnie didn't like talking about AIDS during his presidency.  I think my theory sounds better than a Haitian traveler in Missouri theory.
