Post by: mcCHENE on November 26, 2011, 11:03:53 am
hi everybody,

i had unprotected vaginal sex with a sex worker. I had a Negative hiv combi test result at 14 weeks.
i have a girlfriend .she is hiv negative.  we are together for a long time.

my combi test result is 0.54.  negative is <1. what does it mean?( HIV 1-2 Ab+p24 Antigen    0,54NEGATIVE)

can we make unprotected sex with my girlfriend? i'm very scary about hiv. it's every time in my mind. i can't forget it. i think, i am in hiv psychosis

You have a conclusive test result, you don't have HIV nor do you need to do further testing for HIV.

thak you so much rapid rod.
i understand that i'm hiv negative. and i can make unprotected sex with my girlfriend.
sorry,i have really poor english.
if i make a antibody blood test two mounths later, can it be hiv positive?
doctors say you must retest after 6 mounths in my country. so i'm scared.

i have a question about combi/combo/dou test,

if i infected with  hiv , combi  test have to catch p24 antigen or antibody at 14 weeks. so i am exactly hiv negative .
but why doctors says 6 mounths?  i can't understand this.
do you have any idea?

and ( HIV 1-2 Ab+p24 Antigen    0,54NEGATIVE) what is 0.54 result?

MC,

The window period has been three months for quite a few years now. Some countries and some doctors are not up-to-date with hiv testing knowledge.

You do not need p24 antigen testing. It is only useful in the first few weeks of primary infection, which is well past in your case.

The only testing you needed at fourteen weeks is what you had - an antibody test. At fourteen weeks is does not matter what generation test it was. The numbers included in the result are irrelevant. What's important is that the result was negative.

You tested negative and this result is conclusive, regardless of what the doctors have told you. You do not have hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED FURTHER HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
