Am i infected?
« on: January 03, 2013, 04:19:26 am »
Hi,

about a month and a half ago i had sex with this girl whos history i no nothing about. I used a condom but it broke when i found out, probably not too long after, i put another back on. id say about 3 weeks after that i began to notice alot of dead skin in my mouth, worried i started examining my mouth and found out what looked to be thrush kinda, the roof of my mouth was white and at some point yellow my tonsils are swollen and got what looks to be blisters in the back of my throat. I then decided to Google everything about std and such. it seemed the more i looked the more i stressed. i looked up HIV and its symptoms and found that i don't have any fever or flu like symptoms but recently, about 5 weeks after sex, ive not only noticed the thrush but ive been having testical pains lower abdominal pain, i wouldn't say pain really, more like discomfort i sometimes do have diarrhea but i think im partially constipated for i take robax for my back pain, i got a herniated lumbar disc, but it is possible for me to develop kidney stones easier then others anyway now 6 weeks from the incident my teeth are starting to hurt and my gum sometimes, rarely, bleed when i brush them. I dont seem to have any other symptom but i hear HIV in its early stages you dont get any symptoms. Ive been checking my penis regularly and nothing seems to change down there only in the mouth and now lower abdomen the testical pain come for a short amount of time and leaves. Im going to get tested within the week but im not quite sure how it works with the 3 month waiting period and such. would like to know what you think.

Yes, you had a risk but a very low level one for HIV. I've never known of a situation in which a condom broke to turn into transmission. The condom protected you until it broke. It was a single incident. And the risk is much lower for the insertive partner than it is for the receptive one.

At 6 weeks you can get tested. Assuming you test negative which is what I expect, then you will in all likelihood test negative at 3 months for a conclusive result.

There is nothing HIV specific about any of your symptoms. You should be discussing them with your doctor if they persist.

I don't see this as an HIV situation. Really.
