Holy mother of crap.
I just spent all night doing this 60 page goddamn last minute translation I couldn't decline.  And now I must get ready for work again, and even first day of some classes.
Wait for it, this is about the iphone.  I have noticed that the nuclear meltdown warning ringtone no longer disturbs me enough...   And that was the one that worked.
I dare not take a 1 hour nap?
I do have an old fashioned bell alarm clock I use in pinches like this.
Wish me luck....

Well it seems Apple has proven the naysayers wrong again -- reports of the company's impending death were incorrect. Weekend sales of the iPhone 5s/5c were almost double that of the iPhone 5.

Apple up $23 to 493ish...AND it's rumored they may finally ink a deal with China Mobile, the worlds largest carrier to supply Iphones to a market of 600 million chinamen. Although the deal has been up and down for a couple years it MAY behoove you people to grab a few shares of Apple  ;)

So, do you own Apple stock bought in the old "cheap" days or what?

You know, Miss P once owned substantial shares of Microsoft in the late 80's/early 90's until she sold it all to buy drugs!

ps: a gold iPhone just sold for $10,100 on eBay!

God I wish.

Currently I'm kneedeep in stagnant Dell stock, but hopefully Michael will be cutting me a check soon.

I was one of those who gave up on Apple back before the Ipod.  :'(

They don't put them in the twice a year major deal at the Federal Polytechnicals. EPFL and EPFZ. I buy my laptops through this and get 3 years warranty. So my dead Macbook Pro was just entirely renovated, and gratos. New motherboard, and completely new top half - HD screen etc.
We have observed that his cycle of laptop tech has staying power. Seems like for a good 10 years, one needed and pined for new every 2 years. Now I feel like I'm goint to get 4 out of this thing. Its very fast and beautiful again.

I saw a consumer report investigation that the Samsung are notable for being fragile and, worse, when broken, un-repairable.

Its rather amazing when I am in public in Switzerland, and realise so very many people are walking around with such expensive mini computers, so powerful and sophisticated, as if its the most normal thing...  I guess this is true in many rich cities around the world.
Its pretty incredible, if you think about it.
An iphone is a what, 6 or 700 dollar gadget.
Ever other person on the train hauls out an iphone and a macbook pro or an air. Its thousands of dollars of electronics, like its a bottle of Snapple or a pack of cigarettes.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska —
A glitch in the Apple Maps app on newer iPhones and iPads guides people up to a runway at a major Alaska airport instead of sending them on the proper route to the terminal, an airport official said Wednesday.

The map actually stops at the tarmac, but twice this month, wayward drivers have continued across an active runway.

"It doesn't actually tell you to cross, but the problem is, people see the terminal then at that point, because they are right there, and they just continue across," said Fairbanks International Airport spokeswoman Angie Spear.

There were no injuries in either the Sept. 6 incident or the second one last Friday, mainly because they both happened early in the morning, between flights.

"Obviously, it could have been a very, very, very dangerous situation had they come during a flight departure or arrival," Spear said.

That entrance to the taxiway has now been barricaded from traffic.

The first incident involved an out-of-state visitor trying to return a rental car before a flight, and the second was an Alaska resident trying to get to the airport.

Once the control tower and airport personnel noticed the cars, the people were safely escorted away.

"Both parties that did it said they were following the directions on their iPhone," Spear said.

In July, state Rep. Les Gara, D-Anchorage, had a close call of his own when he was trying to make a flight after a meeting.

He was in an unfamiliar part of Fairbanks and decided to use his iPhone map app to take the shortest route to the airport.

Gara said the app took him to some weird places in Fairbanks, and then to the small plane airport near the international airport.

"Eventually, it told me to make a right onto the small plane runway, which in fact was the shortest way to get to the big airport," he said. "I give the iPhone app credit for that."

But he did not heed the directions: "I'm not a big fan of driving on runways."

After the first incident, airport personnel immediately attempted to contact Apple. The airport is a state facility, and the Alaska attorney general's office also reached out to the Apple legal department.

"It was our understanding it would be taken care of last week," Spear said, but then the second mishap happened Friday. The app was still incorrect Wednesday morning, she said.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple didn't immediately return a message to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

To be fair, the drivers deserve some blame.

The maps stop at the runway, but the drivers continued about a mile through a gate, past warning lights, numerous signs and painted concrete markings saying not to proceed.

"All of these things were disregarded because people simply trusted their device more than they trusted what they were seeing," she said.

Speaking of tablets (I know, no one was)

As everyone is deciding between an IPad, or android, or Microsoft device

Amazon quietly announces their new Kindle Fire HDX tablets.  Starting at $229 they have the highest resolution screen (beating the iPads retina display) and fastest processor.  They also have a power save mode that allows you to read for up to 17 hours.  The NBC news article I read about it says that it is poised to outperform the iPad in the next round of upgrades.  Mainly for its low price but also for its pretty impressive hardware and software.    It even has a help button that you can press and automatically a live person at Amazon land will connect to your device and assist you at no charge.

I would post a link to the news story but my IPad isn't allowing that for some reason.

From a business perspective once again Jeff Bezos is pretty innovative in this.  They are selling their hardware at no profit because they make all their money on everything else you buy from them once you have the device.  That's smart investing.

I think Ipad 5 will come out on 15 October using the same A7 chip in the new iPhone 5s which has blown everything out of the water, so I might hold back with the AppleH8T

And, yet, Etch-A-Sketchs still run about $14.99. It's all about what capability you desire.  ;D

Speaking of tablets (I know, no one was)

Amazon quietly announces their new Kindle Fire HDX tablets.  Starting at $229 ...

Office Depot offers a Lenovo IdeaTab S6000 Tablet With 10.1" Screen for $249. As toys go, this is pretty good.

I tried to explain to my kids this is what our phone was like when I was a child. It ran off two large dry-cell batteries. I can't wait until they tell their children what it was like having dial-up internet access and how their TVs had square screens.

Reality is frequently inaccurate.
