Considering the latest lack of support, understanding of what AMG is all about and censure from the Forum Moderators (Ann, Andy and Tim), perhaps we should take the planning of our annual event elsewhere.  Your thoughts, please!

Hey Friend:

While I know it seems like things have gone really haywire recently, the fact of the matter is we're going to be just fine in my opinion.

Yeah, there's been drama, yeah there's even been a suggestion from another member that a couple dozen of us should all just take our stuff and move on.

The reality is these gatherings (and all the associated drama), were born in these forums, they've grown in these forums, and in my opinion that's exactly where we should stay.

You know Ric, the funny thing is that despite the suggestion that AMG is responsible for an unusual amount of drama, despite the fact that it's been implied we're actually responsible for several members leaving the forums (boy talk about selective history  ::)), the reality is this is still something that has been very positive for so many more.

Old timers, new timers, gay, straight, male, female, whatever class you want to assign.

It's a good thing in my opinion.

It's something worth working on to improve and move forward.

I remain confident we can do that.

L & K

RAB   :-*

P.S. With Dennis and his new team, I'm even more confident.

Hey Rick,

I think you are being unfair to our moderators, by suggesting that their warnings to tone down parts of the debate, somehow translates into their lacking support for AMG.  Surely you don't believe that, you have known these people as long as I have and do you really believe they would do this?  What I see happening is that some people are trying to conduct business and others are just tossing grenades.  So the question becomes, what are we here to do?

AMG is a vital part of AIDSmeds and as far as I am concerned, if we can't pull together to do AMGs the way WE WANT THEM, then we don't deserve them.  Otherwise, stop the drama and be done with it.  I suspect nobody feels that way, so wipe the slate clean and go back to the nominations.  If anyone tosses a grenade... just duck and move on.

Ric,

I'm in agreement with RAB. While I share your concern about moderation, I'm also thinking that I have moved past the drama for three years, and I'll move past it again.

Dennis has done a phenomenal job and will continue to do so, God willing. I think it's a grand idea for the rest of us to kick in and take some of the stressfull work onto ourselves.

I admit I've thought about taking this elsewhere, but how? Email? It only takes one person to delete some other person from the threads and then there we are with the issues, but without witnesses.

The memories from Montreal, San Francisco, and Mexico City are priceless.  The only things missing from Boston were you and Thom.

I will never forget your invitation to share a limosine from the Montreal airport to the hotel!
(Remember this?: "Who wants to fuck a sissy?!")

Much love,

Ric:

For what it's worth, I do want you to know that none of the forums moderators or administrators -- nobody associated with AIDSmeds, POZ or the rest of Smart + Strong -- has ever questioned the importance of AMG or debated the ongoing organization of these gatherings in the forums. Fact is, AIDSmeds has not played any role -- financial, managerial or otherwise -- in the organization of these gatherings, other than allowing the organization of these gatherings to take place in the forums. It was decided, from the start, that planning should be free of our interference. Though AIDSmeds and forums staff have attended these gatherings in the past, they did so as individuals with something to contribute... and to be personally gained.

I do not want to see the "AM" taken out of AMG and the planning of these gatherings taking place elsewhere, where new members of these forums may not be exposed to the planning being done by you guys. In essence, you'd be cutting yourself off from new attendees... and possibly long-time members who don't find their way to the new planning space -- and I seriously doubt anyone wants to see this happen.

That said, I do need to reiterate that discussions surrounding these gatherings -- in these forums -- cannot and will not be immune from moderation.  While you may not agree with recent moderator involvement (mind you, nobody was banned or timed out, and I'm certainly not reading anything to suggest that AIDSmeds is looking to put the kibosh on these gatherings), I wish to remind you that we've had very serious incidents in the past surrounding AMG that absolutely, positively required moderation... including a handful of TOs and bans that MANY AMG attendees argued that we didn't implement fast enough.

I'm totally cool with the fact that moderators will always be damned if they do and damned if they don't.  And I hope that you and others will remain cool with using these forums to continue planning these regular gatherings while adhering to the same rules of conduct that have long been in place.

I have remained cool, Tim.  In fact, I believe that I was the first one to ask that the thread to nominate the next AMG Coordinator and his committee return to the focus of the thread.  One of the moderators locked that thread down.  So now we have to start the discussion all over again.  (Andy, what were you thinking?  Was your action really that necessary?)

Yes Tim, I acknowledge that you and Andy spent time with AMG folks in Montreal.  I fear that our "red carpet" may have been too short for your liking.

I will recluse myself from this discussion and will be glad to resume my roll as keeper of the Arrival / Departure thread when the time becomes appropriate.

With respect to all, Ric

I'm ready to get to work on AMG 2010. Is anyone with me?

Lets continue to focus our efforts on choosing a destination.

Dennis

P.S. Joe, you really must teach me how to duck at an incoming grenade, rather than try to intercept and toss them back.  ;)

Hey Dennis,

I'm ready and willing.
Perhaps it's time to start the final vote on a location and then to date.  It does seem to me that this will do 2 things:

1.  Allow folks to start planning and saving (i.e. asking for time off at work)
2.  It seems that the underlying drama simmers down each year once we get past these 2 things.

Yeah, I agree -- but the drama would probably simmer down quicker if some people here weren't sending out unsolicited PM's to other members with repeated exultations of "FUCK YOU" wouldn't you agree, especially when they're simultaneously putting forth a sweet face publicly for the rest of the forum.  I think that's normally called being duplicitous.

totally agree ,lets move on to at least a time frame for the next meeting, many folks have to submit vacation plans now.  and some  folks have very tight budgets so planning in advance is essential.

I like the first two weeks in August..

Christ, Philicia, couldn't you have done the right thing and contacted the mods directly about an offensive PM instead of stirring up yet more shit in the forums? You've been warned already, which leaves us with a seven-day TO.

See you next week. Hopefully, this will allow this contentious issue time to chill.

Please stay away from August 10 - 16th.  We already have bought tickets to an event in Ohio that we want to attend.  Before we choose a day, I think we'd better vote on a location.  If a particular location is chosen, then for some the time may not matter because they will either not want, or not be able to, attend.

My vote is to vote on location first, then time frame.

I just want to be clear here -- despite the fact that my earlier post was quoted in this post, I have NEVER sent out a PM like that to anyone.  I'm not intending to sustain any "drama", I just want to avoid anyone thinking it was me.
