High alkaline phosphatase
« on: October 15, 2018, 06:42:15 am »
According to my latest lab results: my serum alkaline phosphatase enzyme level is high (163IU/l) but other liver enzymes are in normal rangeSGOT:26 AND SGPT:36
Bilirubin creatinine and other tests are also normal. Though got high triglycerides (216).
I am on telura (generic version of atripla), cd4 ~580 undetectable
I have read that this increase in alkaline phosphatase level can be high in liver diseases or bone diseases. Of it would have been liver my other enzyme levels should also be high which is not in this case. More over bilirubin is also normal.that indicate liver in gud condition. I went through hepatitis tests in baseline 6 months back and it was negative. I'm confused. Why such high increase is there.
Please help.me to understand the lab results.
Ps. Writing over phone so pardon my spell and gramatical errors.

What did your doctor say about the results?

It seems pretty close to "normal" levels to a laymen.  Do you smoke BTW? What's the diet like? What were your results 3 months ago, 6 months ago, a year ago?

Keep in mind a single lab report is just a snapshot moment, results do go up and down for loads of reasons and so a single snapshot is rarely a reflection of an issue.

If the doctor was concerned I am sure they would be asking for additional labs, so check with them if you need reassurance.

Thanks Jim for.the prompt response.
I forgot to add that info in.
According to my first baseline measurements in last Dec my alkaline phosphatase was 93iu now it's is 163. Other liver enzyme level has gone down. Bilirubin creatinine are constant.
No I don't smoke.
Actually the staff said they will call.me if they find any irregularities  however I didn't get their call. But I have to visit my doctor next week.

If they did not call to rush you in than I would not be worrying about it particularly not as its ever so slightly over normal range and only once.

Good luck with the doctor next week
