Illinois State Rep and aide embezzled funds from HIV/AIDS grant

This is just sad... an elected official and her aide steal grant money from HIV/AIDS program funding in addition to stealing scholarship funds (only 5 out 50 scholarships actually awarded) and they give her a plea deal of only one charge of mail fraud...?!

Oh, and she 'might' lose her pension 

"According to the indictment, the state gave the foundation grants in 2007 totaling $1.2 million to help pay for awareness programs including an annual walk and bike ride, creating additional testing sites in black communities, and providing medical and social services for inmates and former inmates.

Prosecutors contend much of that work was never done. Instead, they say, Kelly “fraudulently diverted a substantial amount of the foundation’s grant funds for other purposes, including the personal benefit of defendant Kelly and Public Official A and their associates.”"

Court documents also show $7,000 was used to buy tickets, skyboxes, food and alcohol for the 2007 Chicago Football Classic, which Kelly, Public Official A and others attended.

and the icing on the cake - the only asset left is in such bad shape that not only will the state not be able to sell and recoup any money; but the city/state will be paying out money to tear the building down.

What a loss for so positive people - and the people who might not have been infected if the real grant deliverables had been done.
