Question about Viramune
« on: March 25, 2007, 03:29:47 am »
For a period of time, I was taking both Viramunes together, instead of 12 hours apart. I went back to the 12 hour dosing a while back.

This article came out a little while back stating that once daily Viramune "strikes Out"

https://www.poz.com/article/Once-Daily-Viramune-Strikes-Out-11411-9752

I am curious about  the Food and Drug administration stance on this. "However, this dosing schedule has not been officially approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration."

Has anything changed? Has the US food and drug adminstration, decided against approving the once a day dosing of Viramune ? If that is the case, some information needs to be updated in the lessons, in this link :

Viramune is still officially recommended used 2 x day. Indeed, the Viramune prescribing info makes no reference to use 1 x day. 1 x day is a common practice, and for many people works. It's a good bet to work given the long half-life of the drug. But comparatively, 1 x day gets people undetectable less often than 2 x day.  Same is true, eg, of Kaletra.  Trouble is, the studies tell you this at a population level, but how do you know if it will apply to you?

Thanks Matt,

I was wondering if doctors were still prescribing it this way. Two pills same time once a day. For the few months, that I was doing it this way, it just felt like too much concentration of drug in the body. Things improved, when I went back to the twice a day dosing.

Thanks again-----Ray

Ray,   I still take my Viramune one at a time, even though my doc said it would be o.k. to take them both at the same time as the Truvada....   I don't have too much difficulty remembering (I take mine at lunch and bedtime, not exactly 12 hrs apart, but it works for me).

Thanks Alan,

I wonder how many others , are taking both Viramunes together, as compared to the twice a day dosing.
