Title: Oral transmission?
Post by: Hopeful2012 on October 12, 2012, 10:07:10 pm
Hello I'm very anxious and I would appreciate some answers please. The last time I was tested Negative was over a year and a half ago but did have sex with an ex who I was seeing for about two years. It is not one year and seven months later and a few months ago I developed a rash on my elbows, it went away, then came  back and went away away & I had a round flat red spot on the back of my ear well the spot has spread from my ear down the back of my head to my neck and back. I've had it for a few weeks its itchy and red. Will an HIV related rash appear months after exposure as a symptom of ars ?  :( please help very scared

The rash that SOMETIMES accompanied HIV antibody production is painless, and stays on the trunk of the body, not the extremities.

Assuming your sex was unprotected, of course you had a risk. If you wear a condom for penetrative anal and vaginal sex you won't have to worry about HIV at all.

So why not take an STD panel, including an HIV test to discover your status? If for nothing else, you will have a base line.

Just test.

I had oral with an ex (heterosexual)for 10 seconds literally because I tasted precum. He told me he was clean but I don't know for sure
Anyway 4 days later I got a horrible sore throat and fever. My throat was white and my tonsils were swollen. I had the fever for 2 days and took amocillin and it went away right after the first antibiotic, then 2 weeks later I got a cold sore. My question is, could I have been infected ? I get sores on my tongue sometimes but I didn't notice any at the time. Any answers would be great.

HI

I'm clean, i wash, anyhow read your post.

Sore throats & Cold sores outbreak are from the herpes virus, estimates are 75% of the adult population has either HSV 1 or 2, nothing to do with HIV.

As for the BJ, HIV is very fragile, and your mouth without damage lacks the cells to infect so the route and saliva has dozens of protein and enzymes that damage the virus and render it unable to infect.

So near negligible concern, nothing to go specifically test over or worry about, just test as normal when you are due for your regular sexual health checkup.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing (https://poz.com/basics/hiv-basics/hiv-testing)

Kind regards

Jim

Thank you for your quick response and I am sorry about saying clean I didn't mean to offend. In your experience and understanding of this disease, do you think the symptoms could come on in less than a week? I know is not okay to self diagnose and such but I'm a highly anxious person and response is really appreciated. I will do my health screen this coming year as usual. But in the mean time I'm worried sick :(

Most people experience no symptoms during acute infection from HIV and we don't discuss symptoms here, however to be very clear cold sores outbreak are from the herpes virus, estimates are 75% of the adult population has either HSV 1 or 2, nothing to do with HIV. Tonsillitis you may as well be asking if bumping your toe is a symptom.

This is your risk assessment: Near negligible concern, nothing to go specifically test over or worry about, just test as normal when you are due for your regular sexual health checkup.
