Title: Large Stribild Pills
Post by: GrlPozX on August 28, 2013, 11:11:50 pm
My husband is getting ready to start his meds, Stribild, and he has a very hard time swallowing big pills. Any suggestions??

Has he tried milk or something like Ensure? Sometimes a thicker liquid will help.

If he can take smaller pills, you might have to switch to a regimen that involvs the same medications, but with a larger volume of pills per day.

Neither elvitegravir nor cobicistat has been approved for use outside of Stribild, but you could always go for Isentress (raltegravir) + Truvada. Or possibly Tivicay (dolutegravir) + something. I read on here that someone already has a prescription for it? I'll be asking if that's a possibility for me at my next appointment.

I started Tivicay two days ago, they are tiny yellow pills (the smallest HIV med I have taken yet.) I take it with Truvada right before I go to bed, best part is no food requirement!

I'm glad to be a pioneer and try it out  ;) After Stribild I think anything is better, that pill and I didn't get along very well, but for others it is great! I have only been on the Tivicay for 2 days and so far it is the first med I have been on that I feel really really good on! A little brain fog but I got this when I switched to stribild and it lasted only about a week or so. I have had a little nausea but nothing to complain about! Dr. said it would take about a week to adjust :D From what I can tell in these two short days this pill will help lots of people!

I have this same problem swallowing pills, and I was super concerned when I saw how big the Stribild pills were. When I was picking up the first prescription, I noticed this little spray bottle called "Pill Glide" Swallowing spray. I asked the pharmacist if it worked, and he said he had heard many good results so I gave it a try. It definitely works for me! I spray two or three "spritzes" of the spray in my throat, and magically I can swallow the pill. I have to respray for the other large pills I take at the same time of day, but at least it's working for me because I have a huge fear of choking. Anyway, I bought it over the counter at a CVS pharmacy but I believe it's available online as well, I think the cost was $7.95 at my CVS. Good luck and if you give it a try, I'd love to know if it works for him.
