I just read a fascinating book by social psychologist Jonathan Haidt titled The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion. He uses scientific research to build a convincing argument that people form beliefs first through emotion and intuition and then use reason to identify evidence to support those beliefs. He identifies 5 moral foundations that differentiate liberals and conservatives. I can't effectively summarize everything he covers in the book but if you like the video you will love the book.

Very interesting but I could not help thinking of "The Foundation" by Isaac Asimov.  Of course in that book author's story designed a method of predicting the future with a complex formula of human methodology, but it was only an approximation and it was in forced by a group of selected followers who were (so called) superior human beings for their ESP abilities.  This story was influence by the atrocities World War II, Darwin's theory survival of the fittest produces the Master Race, egomania and righteous thinking.  Or maybe it would be wiser to be Neutral and interpret the "shadows on the wall" from behind or beside the projection, but that would be hard for my natural need to be part of a group or team allows for either one or the other positions in selected human affairs.  In any case, it was a very informative presentation that opened more of my perspective of humanity.
