Increased levels of radiation are now being detected here on the east coast of North America.

Small levels of radiation continue from the Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant continue to be detected in the United States, according to CNN. However, the Environmental Protection Agency reaffirm that the levels pose no threat to public health. At least 15 states reported detecting radioisotopes in the air or their water or both. No state governments or agencies have recommended taking potassium iodide for its residents. Potassium iodide is a salt that protects the thyroid gland from radioactive iodine.

Trace amounts of radiation have been detected in west coast states including California and Oregon, but now increased levels are being reported from east coast areas as well. On Friday increased levels of iodine-131 were detected in air in Maryland as well as microscopic amounts found in rainwater.

It's now in our milk out here in CA.  Although gov't reports it is 5000 times below what would be considered harmful... at least we hope.  Considering CA is the nation's leading milk producer (I think)... you too may soon enjoy the pleasures of radiated milk.

Aint that the truth sf!  Its not exactly anything we can really do much about either.  Experts who are in the position to advise 'next steps' are doing their best I would hope.  My question, and its probably much easier posed than actually logistically feasible to do is: Cant this whole plant be covered in some containment material?  There was talk about using a mixture of sand and lead then concrete.
