2 or 3 hours late to take meds is a problem?
« on: November 16, 2012, 12:24:12 am »
On my last appointment I said to my doctor that sometimes I take 2 or 3 hours late my meds. She said to me it isnt a problem as long as I dont miss that. Actually I never missed but that delay  has been happening very often. I had change my time of taking meds by myself for 1 hour later trying to fix it but it still happening.
The point is if I take them on that variable time but no more than 3 hours is that a problem for my treatment?
thanks

The answer is no, but it reads as if you would be better off just picking a new time since you're concerned and averaging 2-3 hours later than you first decided?

In two years since starting meds, I've altered my timing by 4 hours from where it first was. Work, play, travel---stuff gets in the way and you figure out what makes adherence easiest for you.

I agree with emeraldize.  I just take my medication prior to going to bed, whether that is at 10 pm or 3 am after a night out on the town.  Many of the new(er) regimens are quite forgiving in terms of timing, much more than the older regimens.

I think if it happens sometimes it's not a big deal but you should do your best to not make it a recurring thing. My doctor told me not to be more then a half hour off.

So i think it is ideal to take it as close to the same time as you can but not crucial. And it's better to take it a few hours late then not at all.

My doctor told me that same stuff once upon a time, but I think he was most concerned with trying to instill a sense of urgency in me about being diligent in taking them everyday.  Truth is, it varies some from med to med, but they've all got a little built in wiggle room for staying in your system.

I would agree with Em, though.  If it's happening that frequently and you are thinking about it so much, just restructure your dosing time to something that works better.

My Doc asked me to always strive for within 4 hours on *either side* of a target time.  So, my target time is 9:30 pm....and that means that while I shoot for 9:30, I will vary from 5:30 to 1:30am depending on my activities for the night.

The first 4 months I was spot on between 7 pm and 9 pm and went undetectable. Now as long as I take it between 6 pm and 10 pm I do not stress. It is more about taking it everyday. I have yet to miss a dose.

You asked your doctor who answered you correctly.  What else can we add that hasn't been said?
