wow, i must say this site is a gift. there is so much contrasting imformation floating around the net idk what to believe. a recent incident has happend that has left me worried. at my school there is a girl who many believe is hiv positive. i never paid them any attention because she has always been nice 2 me. well, our class got divided into study groups and she was sitting right next to me chewing gum. and well she bit down and some saliva squirted in my eye. i didnt think much of it when it happend but soon i started thinking what if she had blood in her saliva and what if it was just blood and not saliva. EVERYWHERE else i have been says i need to be tested because their are documented cases of people being infected via blood in their eye. i meann the eye goes to the blood stream and blood is highly infectious. idk wat to do whats the truth behind this.

At no time were you at risk of contracting HIV.

Yes, and I have never known of HIV to be transmitted in that manner. It's what we call a theoretical risk. HIV is actually a quite fragile virus. It needs the kind of perfect, receptive setting which the vagina and the anus present in unprotected intercourse.
So until if and when your friend or anyone else get around to having intercourse, you don't have to worry. Should you have intercourse, then always use a condom and then it won't matter if the person you are with is HIV+ or not.
There is no need for worrying nor for testing. Get on with your life.

Thank You, you have no idea how much stress you took off me with just those 2 responses. Its just, EVERYWHERE i went said the opposite of what you said. they said the eye has mucus membranes that can infect you if blood gets in your eye. one guy was talking about how he knew a woman who a got a little blood splashed in her eye and now she's infected. if you cant get infected this way then why do they stop sports and stuff for blood and why do people think you can get infected like that if you cant.

We would never dream of spending the time and energy to account for what other people are putting out on other sites. As far as sports are concerned I regard that excessive caution as in large part HIV-phobic and ignorant about real risks.

Thank you andy you are a good man working for a good site and you have put my fear to a rest but a friend of mine is curious about stuff. My room mate is gay and lets just sat he's a very sexually odd person. he is suffering from the same HIV anxiety i was and wants some questions answered. i told him i highly doubt he got hiv from these stupid gross things he does but he dont believe me. ugh here goes. apperantly one night after a party he was using anal beeds on himself(idk Y) then he dropped them on the floor when he heard the doorbell ring. he answered it came back about 30 minutes later and continued using the beeds off the floor. his worry is that there was some sort of fluid on the floor where the beeds were considering ppl had been walking in and out of the room in there shoes. he is concerend some fluid off the floor that came from somebodies shoes infected him with hiv while he was sticking them in his..you know..anus. another he had is that when he masterbates he never washes his hands and that he has been goin through the day touching dirty doorknobs and the floor and somehow had fluid on his hand that reached his urethra. he said one day he was jerking off rough and his thumb nail went into his urethra and he's scared because he had just been touching the bottome of his shoe.

Tell your friend to read the lessons here and educate himself on how HIV is and is not transmitted...it never ceases to amaze me how many people in this day and age are still so ignorant about HIV.
He has absolutely nothing to worry about..but I'm worried about his lack of knowledge.

If a toothbrush had hiv positive fluids on it what would be the means necessary for it to infect you? im wondering because i have gengivitis and have noticed something that looks like mold on my toothbrush but never paid any attention to it because i thought it was food but now im afraid it may be blood from when it was bought and i have been brushing my teeth with it this whole time. i really should have gotten a new brush ive been using the same one over a year now.

HIV is a fragile virus which does not survive once out in the air. It is not transmitted from daily life objects like toothbrushes, doorknobs, food, toilet seats, towels, etc.
Whatever is on that funky toothbrush is NOT viable HIV, although it sounds it might be a good idea to get a new one for other reasons.

He is just worried about the toothbrush because he took one from a friend who bought them at the flea market and is worried there might have been blood on it when he first used it. so basicly if i was to use a toothbrush dripping with blood just 30 seconds after a person with hiv used it it wouldnt infect me? how bout 10 seconds after a person and wat if i had cuts in my mouth?

OK. We're off of this round of pointless what ifs right now. You and your "friend" should read the lesson on Transmission. There's a link to it in the Welcome thread which opens this section.
If you continue to come back here with these self-generated dramas you will very quickly find yourself getting a 28 Time Out from this site.

I know what yall have told me but the main thing that got me stirred up is reading about the kimberly birgalis case where it was said she and 5 others were infected by an hiv+ dentist. if you cant get infected by a toothbrush and other things like it how did he infect them? i go to a fancy school and we have maids that come into our rooms and clean our bathrooms while we are sleeping. ive seen the maids knock over toothbtush bowls and grab them by the brissel and put them back in the bowls. they could have easily gotten blood on them and if i brushed my teeth with my gengivitis i could have mixed blood. i know you hate the what if scenarios but what if someone who was hiv positive was brushing their teeth and bled on the brush and in a matter of 10 seconds i immediatley grabbed it and brushed my teeth and the blood got in my mouth and cuts. how could that not happen?

Are you for real? You've been told repeatedly that hiv is not transmitted from objects in the environment. It's a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.
Unless you've been having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse with your roommate or the maids - or anyone else for that matter - you haven't been at risk for hiv infection.
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.
Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
And what else is very simple is the fact that if you come back with more of these ludicrous no risk scenarios, you'll be given a time out. If you read the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:
