Travelling and feeling down.

So I'm currently travelling in Australia from the uk. It has been my dream to come here but my bigger dream to live here.

I have explored every option in order to stay here however having hiv it's not possible it's basically a big fat no from the aus government. They have there reasons and I understand that and I am for the first time since my diognosis 1.5 years ago feeling upset and angry about things. I needed to vent and talk with likeminded people so I've created my account here and am spilling my mind.

The one thing I was always told 'we want you to lead a normal life' yeah and to a certain extent I am, and I'm more than happy and grateful for today's modern medicines and the NHS we have at home in the uk. But when it boils down to it I'm pissed off. Do I have a right to be? I know that there are so many people in worse situations than this and for that I mean no disrespect. If I can help anyone in anyway all you need to do is ask.

I'm an Australian who used to work for the Immigration Department.

Here's the state of play with Immigration to Australia and HIV....
This all assumes you meet all the other criteria for the visa program you are applying for, ie skilled migration, family reunion, business proprietorship etc etc.

You will get knocked back on having HIV or any other expensive to treat medical condition.

If your HIV is well controlled on ART, you will then win the appeal. This is a slower process and more expensive but will succeed.

The logic of the ban and the appeal work like this.
The ban on people living with HIV was made in the days when there was no effective ART. PLWHAs were getting ill, not working and were requiring lots of hospital time.
The ban still stands as a relic of those days.

The appeal gets won on the basis that even tho ART is expensive, you will be leading a long, healthy life that is productive.

You can go through the appeals process by yourself or through a migration agent (expensive). You may also be able to get advice from HALC (HIV/AIDS Legal Centre) in NSW or there will be similar services through most HIV/ Aids councils or through various positive life centres.

Do you have any updated information regarding immigration?

We want a perm visa both me and my hubby to be have good jobs on the skills shortage list, we have two young children and we are in our 30s. I have been undectable since starting treatment 6 years ago.

There issuch a lack of information of people that have successfully received a visa and I don't know where to start with the health waiver, what visa we should apply for ect.

Please can you help?
