Teabagger terrorism causes 10 Dems to be offered security
« on: March 24, 2010, 08:25:07 pm »
What a great way to win those independent voters (not)!  Yeah, yeah -- I realize no actual teabagger has been fingered (yet) but I feel pretty sure this wasn't the actions of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. This could all really backfire on the GOP, regardless of whether or not anyone is actually caught.  It would be their own 1968.

What's so odd is that they're resorting to violent mob antics over a health care plan cooked up at the conservative Heritage Foundation in the early 90's, and then pimped by Mittens Romney in MA.

At least 10 Democratic members of Congress have been offered increased security attention in the wake of last weekend's health-care vote, House leaders said Wednesday, after some Democrats received death threats and others' congressional offices and Democratic Party campaign offices were vandalized.

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) and House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) condemned the attacks after hearing about the vandalism from U.S. Capitol Police during a Democratic caucus meeting. The actions targeted Democrats who voted for the legislation.

The FBI is also investigating "all threats and incidents directed against members of Congress," a spokeswoman for the bureau's Washington office said.

Asked whether members are endangered, Hoyer said: "Yes. [There are] very serious incidents that have occurred.
...
In the case of Perriello, a freshman, tea party activists posted online the address of what they thought was the congressman's home and suggested that opponents should "drop by" to convey their opposition to his yes vote Sunday on health care.

The address was actually the home of Perriello's older brother, Bo. On Tuesday, authorities found a slashed gas line leading to a propane tank at the home.
oops... forgot this part:

Some leading Democrats have suggested that House Republicans were fanning the violence by their fiery comments in recent days. Several Republicans stood on the speaker's balcony at the Capitol overlooking a tea party protest last weekend, holding signs that read "Kill the Bill."

"When people start talking in the rhetoric of putting people on 'firing lines,' . . . or they put a target on their faces, with cross hairs," Hoyer said at a news conference, "that activity ought to be unacceptable in our democracy. . . . That's wrong. "

Hoyer appeared to be referring to Republican Party Chairman Michael S. Steele's comment in a recent interview that Pelosi is on a "firing line" and to a map posted Tuesday on Sarah Palin's Facebook page, which marked with a gunsight districts of House Democrats she plans to campaign against.
... ya don't say!
