Looking for help!
« on: May 04, 2011, 01:01:00 pm »
I know I am infected because of the amount of high risk women sex work type woman I have had sex with. I only had unprotected sex one time, maybe a hundred of protected/unprotected oral. I been living my life lose and been playing with fire. I just showed signs of HIV infection. I just tested neg for hiv on April 29, waiting on my 6 week test.

I am living in an overseas third world country, but I am american. I have a girl living with me, her past work was as a sex worker, I am unaware of her std status. we just became exclusive. she has a child, she was working as a sex worker to take care of her child. I have always had protected sex with her but she would swallow my semen. As soon as I had the symptoms i told her no more sex. She could start showing signs any minute now. what should i do? I can never bring her to the states or marry her because USA law will not allow if she has HIV. did i infect her or did she infect me. should i have her tested now to find out? What do i say to her? should i run? what should i say to her? This is very complex. She is beginning to suspect.

How will I afford to pay for all the treatment for us? I have no insurance.

You are so jumping the gun to assume that you have HIV. If you have had only a single instance of unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse, then the odds are very much in your favor against your having contracted HIV. HIV is a fragile virus. It is significantly more difficult to transmit from female to male than the other way around. Your having had many incidents of oral sex is irrelevant. The scientific evidence against oral sex as a risk is significant and well documented.

You and your partner ought to be using condoms until if and when you both are committed to monogamy together after having both tested negative for HIV at 13 weeks after the most recent unprotected intercourse. Only unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse have been confirmed as risks for the sexual transmission of HIV.

So I say there is a strong likelihood that you will come out of this ok. It would be good for your partner to get tested as well and hopefully establish that she is HIV negative as well.

Good luck with your test results.

I have had protected sex with maybe 100 women, A few condom breaks but I always replaced the condom right away. The country I am in is on the verge of an major HIV epidemic like Thailand. I been having protected vaginal sex with these women in red light districts. Many times protected/unprotected oral. I want you to understand I been having sex with different woman every few days. Many, many many, women!

I had all the flu like symptoms, canker sores in the mouth, fever, a single swollen groin lymph node, night sweats, cold sweats, dry flaky skin, bright yellow urine. I didn't vomit or have a rash.

Lets assume I am right, what should I do?

No, let's NOT assume you are right. Until you have either reliably tested negative at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident or tested positive including with a western blot, until then it's all guessing about your status.

Nothing you are reporting symptomatically is in anyway HIV specific. And neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms is ever the way to know your status.

So until we know your HIV test result you will just have to wait it out.

Keep us posted.

PIAS,

I agree with Andy. Given your history, you are unlikely to test positive. Just because you got sick does not mean you have hiv. Many things could have caused your illness and nothing you mention is hiv specific.

I really do think that you've been ill with something totally unconnected to hiv and are just being paranoid because of all the sex you've had with sex workers. You can have as much sex as you want without fear of hiv infection, just as long as you put a condom on for anal or vaginal intercourse.

Getting a blowjob is absolutely not a risk for hiv infection. Neither is going down on a woman. Not one person has ever been infected either way and you will not be the first.

As long as your recent hiv test was three months or more after your last incident of unprotected intercourse or broken condom, then you are already conclusively hiv negative. You only need to test for unprotected intercourse or a condom break.

A test at six weeks past your last incident of anal or vaginal intercourse or condom break will give you a very good indication of your status. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by this time, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

Make sure your partner is also tested at the appropriate time before you stop using condoms. You both need to test for all STIs, not just hiv.

I really think you're going to come out of this ok. Good luck with the new relationship.

Hello everyone,

I am still very very scared, all I can think about is how I just got HIV. I would like to get the experts thoughts on my situation. However I have a feeling I will be responded with “symptoms are no indication of HIV infection you must be tested” which is quite frustrating given all the symptoms I have had. My RNA PCR test is taking 18 days to get the results and this is killing me inside.

Also I would like the experts to read the USAID HIV/AIDS Philippines health profile. USAID is a United States government agency that provides funds and tracks HIV/AIDS in the Philippines. The USAID says that The Philippines is a low-HIV prevalence country, with less than 0.1 percent of the adult population estimated to be HIV positive. However I do not believe these reports and there are a few Politician's who also believe as many as 150,000 or 10x-100x times the amount … maybe living with HIV. Prevalence has remained low despite widespread risky behavior, low rates of condom use, and increasing prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). It also says registered female sex workers infected estimated in 2009 to be only 0.13 percent prevalence among registered FSWs Nationwide across the Philippines. And 0.2% among registered FSWs in the capital city of Manila. However, the numbers are rising and is in danger of having an HIV epidemic. Many sex workers in the red light districts come from the small villages of other islands, they are not very much educated on condom use and STD’s.

http://www.usaid.gov/our_work/global_health/aids/Countries/asia/philippines_profile.pdf

I would like the above to be considered as I explain my encounters.

I will try my best to explain every detail. Between the dates of March 27 – April 20th I have had sex with 4 girls and 3 condom protected Fellatio from registered sex workers in a major red light district in the Philippines.
Of the 4 sex worker girls I had vaginal intercourse with 3 of them I used a condom however I had 2 cases were the condom broke but I always pulled out right away and replaced with a new condom (But I did not wash my penis before doing so)

Here is the breakdown:

Girl #1: Unprotected vaginal intercourse and only receiving oral. (I had sex with this girl a few times most of the times I used a condom however I was dumb and had 3 nights unprotected sex, no anal) She just had a baby 8 months ago and told me she just started doing sex work since December to help support her baby. She said she did not have any STD’s and I was a fool to believe her) March 27- April 11. Now that I think back during my time with her I did not notice anything that might indicate an STD. Of course STD’s usually show no symptoms, but I might expect her to have night sweats, or be fatigued a lot during the day as we were doing lots of traveling to places known to have malaria, I was bitten a few times and I did not take any malaria pills.

Girl #2: 2 nights protected sex, no anal, unprotected fellatio and unprotected cunnalingus. (She was not bleeding however she was very soaking wet. Both nights during sex she would cum many times while riding me drenching me and the bed sheets.) Condom broke once but I quickly pulled out immediately and replaced with a new one without washing my penis. April 14-15.

Girl #3: 3 times vaginal sex protected and 3 times fellatio unprotected. Condom broke once because she was very tight and dry I quickly pulled out and replaced the condom. April 16th

Girl#4: I have routinely had protected sex with this girl for about 2 months off and on about 50 times with unprotected oral. I had gotten gonorrhea once when the condom broke (I pulled out again right away and replaced the condom, 3 days later I got the drip, I took the meds (Zithromax) the next day and the gonorrhea was cured in 48 hours) I had sex with her throughout march and from april 17 – april  25

On April 25, I noticed 2 big oral ulcers inside my mouth; I started treating with salt water and Listerine. I also noticed a tiny patch of ulcers on my gums, this patch was very very small, so small in fact I hardly knew they were there as they did not hurt. At this point I started to google HIV symptoms and my stress levels gone to over drive.

1-2 days later I started to experience mild headaches and dizziness. April 26-27.   This is right around the 22 day mark all my symptoms started to progress.

The next day on April 28, It started to get worst I was having muscle aches in the legs I was not getting much sleep at all for the past 48 -72 as I was going crazy thinking I have HIV, I felt cold chills, diarrhea, night sweats, bad headaches, fever, feeling hot then cold over and over, a single swollen groin lymph node, feeling weak, Very little appetite, I starting urinating what seemed like 30 times a day dark amber color urine, Very little appetite, I was losing weight fast. I had no sore throat and no Rashes which is said up to 85% of the people get during acute HIV symptoms.

I was lying in bed and all of a sudden I started to become very very ill more then what I was feeling before, This was very intense, I felt like I was going to pass out or vomit but I did not. I sat in a chair in front of the Air conditioner for almost 14-16 hours. As this was making me deal with the flu symptoms a little better.

On April 29 the next day I felt a little better not nearly as bad as the night before, still no sleep though, I had forced myself to go to the hospital to have a bunch of test run on me. I saw an infectious disease specialist who treats HIV patients, I told him my story of unprotected sex with a sex worker and symptoms. He asked me if I was searching online about HIV symptoms, he asked if I was scared with anxiety because I thought I had caught HIV. I told him yes; he then laughed in my face because he says people always do that and come to his clinic thinking they have HIV. He then told me mostly gay men test positive for HIV in the Philippines. And that not many people in the Philippines have HIV infection. I told him I had no rash and he then told me “then you didn’t get infected with HIV” He had me get a viral load RNA PCR test and many other STD tests, I am waiting my test results for the RNA PCR test on May 23. He said not many women test positive for HIV, but the ones that do are in relationships with foreigners. This tells me they are sex workers who are bar girls. And my thought about the reason not many girls test positive is simply they are not educated about STD’s and fail to get tested even though they are sex workers.

Since April 29-May 11th I started to feel a lot better, no more night sweats, no fever but still feeling a bit weak and hot on the forehead and ears at times also the diarrhea continues. Very little appetite.

Also on May 9th I got sore eyes from the girl that is living with me, she was already treating this during my sickness, The doctor told me it is highly contagious viral infection of the eyes the is very common. He gave the same eye drops to me that he gave her and told me it should clear in 10 days.

What do the experts think my RNA PCR test results will be, that is all I want to know. I will not get upset no matter the results at any members here.

PIAS,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread. It doesn't matter how long it has been since you last posted in your thread or if the subject matter is different.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

You're right - we ARE going to tell you that neither symptoms nor the lack of symptoms mean a single thing when it comes to diagnosing hiv infection. ONLY testing will reliably reveal your hiv status.

I still expect you to test negative. You're just going to have to sit it out and wait for your results. I have to wait three months between getting my blood drawn and finding out my lab results and have had to wait it out for ten years now. You're not going to get any sympathy from me, sorry. You should have just had an antibody test so you didn't have to wait so long. If the wait is that bad, go get a rapid antibody test. It's all you need.

Get productively busy while you wait for your results and the time will go faster than you might imagine.
