OMG running/jogging is so hard!!!
« on: June 23, 2008, 11:16:02 pm »
Since I quit smoking a month ago, I started running. Never run in my life.
I can't do over four miles in one day and it's soo hard.  I think I average eight minutes a mile if I'm lucky.  Runners are crazy.

Since I can't afford to take dance class or get a gym membership this is like the only way to get cardio in as I don't rehearse for a while.   OMG and i don't understand how people can do triathelons (sp)!!! Those people are crazy too.

Running is not only brutal, it is suicidal.

I consider it a cult as I mentioned in another thread, but I do support your desire to get in shape.  Aside from the standard x-rated suggestions on how you can better burn those calories, I think you might want to look into something as simple as push-ups (so unappreciated nowadays) and just plain long walking that can do wonders for your body.

As far as running, I reply with the best line from "The Faculty,"
  • I don't think that a person should run unless he's being chased.

Yeah the shit I have been doing is pushups with feet on a chair and bicep curls at home.  I'm sure most people hate me for saying that but I HATE my metabolism and constantly need to eat. I can't wait for it to slow down.  Almost 28 years old....!!! When does it slow down?!!

And diabetic?  Biking and swimming seem like *SO* much more fun to me.  Maybe I'll look into those.  Or I can be a whore again.

anyways...

Be careful with running and biking and keeping your knees healthy for dance.   I think swimming would be the best.

If you are going to run make sure to stay in the grass vs. hard pavement easier on the knees. Treadmill works best.
Atheist don't believe in GOD, but GOD believes in them and loves them. Never let the failure of man conflict with your love of GOD.

Hi shadowfluid,

The first weeks are the most difficult.

After 2-3 weeks, you will be able to run 30 min, with the same difficulty, and 1 month later, 1h then more.

The body is adapting, but you must keep going for that.

If running cause you any problems, you can do any others sport involving the large muscle (cardio), such as swimming, cycling or rowing.

Don't give up if you want to improve your endurance, burn fat, improve your cardio function, lower your stress, etc..
After 1-2 months, doing sport change your life, and become a real pleasure.
You will not even consider miss a training.

Hence Iggy's comment about it being a cult. :)
