Title: seroconversion after 86 days?
Post by: australian_guy on July 27, 2006, 04:16:22 am
I tested HIV- at 86 days after giving unprotected oral sex without ejaculation to a guy.

Ann said that I was HIV Negative, as I got tested at the right time, and there is no chance of me late seroconverting.

Sometimes when I suffer bad asthma attacks (rarely, once or twice a year) my doctor will put me on Prednisone for 4 days to clear it up. I've read that Prednisone is an immunosuppressant if given in high dosages.

I didn't take it during my window period, but it is possible that I have taken Prednisone in the months prior to the sexual event. Is it possible that this has delayed me forming antibodies, and ultimately giving me a false negative result?

Guy,

As you were told in your thread in the old forum, (http://www.aidsmeds.com/Fusetalk/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=29875&FTVAR_MSGDBTABLE=arc) you tested negative at the correct time after a very, very low risk incident. You are hiv negative.

Prednisone is not powerful enough to delay seroconversion and you didn't even use it during your window period anyway. There is absolutely no chance that it would have affected your test results whatsoever.

You are hiv negative. Use condoms for intercourse and you will continue  to avoid hiv infection. Yes, it really is that simple! Please check out the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can make sure you are using them correctly. You should also read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and follow the links found there. The Transmission Lesson is new since you were here last.

You are hiv negative. Use condoms for intercourse and stay that way. OK?

Thanks Ann for your answer. Sorry for the delay in thanking you, I have been very busy lately.

What generation HIV test does Australia use, does anyone know?

At 12 weeks, it doesn't matter what generation test was used.

Australian

Does not matter because after 3 months the generation is not relevant anymore...
