Title: Poz/Neg relationship and breaking condom
Post by: 072508 on December 19, 2008, 05:43:58 pm
I was reading another post and then a question popped up in my head. I am postive and my bf is negative. Me being more of a bottom in our relationship, if a condom breaks what are the chances of transmission? We have been together for about 5 months and my ID Dr said I was probably infected in july sometime due to me being deathly sick in august sometime I believe it was. Me and my bf had been having unprotected sex the entire time. Once I found out I told him immediately and he tested negative (so far), and when we only have protected sex now. He fully knows the risks of everthing and if he is (truly) negative he is ok with it something "happens" and he gets infected.

So, is HIV anything like chicks on their period where it is easier to get pregnant at certain times of the time of the month?

Im new to the whole HIV world and apologize in advance.

07,

I didn't know that chickens had periods! I know women do, but not so sure about hens.

Seriously though, the insertive partner is always at lesser risk for hiv infection than a bottom. I've been answering threads in the Am I Infected forum for around six/seven years now (no wonder I'm losing my mind) and I've yet to see a top infected as a result of a condom break.

If you are using condoms correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about them breaking. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

I see in your signature line that you've started meds. Once your viral load goes undetectable, the risk to your partner will be lower still. But keep using condoms! There is no risk with a properly used condom.

Good luck to your partner. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks. A six week negative result needs to be confirmed at the three month point, but is very unlikely to change. Again, good luck to him. Hope he continues to test negative.
