Had to put our dog down
« on: October 22, 2007, 09:12:45 pm »
We had to put our dog Ginger to sleep today. She was such a good dog! She went to sleep with me holding her head telling her what a good girl she is and how much we love her.

What a beautiful little girl.  I'm so sorry.  I know the feeling and it's one of the hardest things to do.

This has been quite an emotional day for me what with Christine's candle and your beautiful little dog. I think I'll just get under the covers, close my eyes and relax.

Theresa,
I am truly saddened to hear this news. I know how much my dogs mean to me, and start crying at just the thought of having to put one of them down. I live in fear of the day that this actually has to happen. Good luck over the next few weeks.I know that your going to miss your little girl terribly.

With a heavy heart, Capt.Carl

Hi Teresa~

I am so sorry about sweet Ginger!  What a beautiful girl!  I had to put my little Casie down 6 months ago, now its me and Cheech.  I feel your loss tonight, I know how hard this is.  You've probably seen this before, but I always post it when someone loses a pet.  I hope you find comfort in these words.

http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Teresa,

My heart goes out to you.  Being an animal lover for many years I know what it's like to loose someone you love.  I have been present for the death of 3 dogs and a horse.  2 of the dogs were put down for health reasons, the other dog died from old age.  We also had to put down one of our horses due to an injury to her leg.  I was there for all of them because, as painful as it was to witness, it was better knowing that the animals slipped off into the great beyond knowing they were loved, being held (or just simply petted in the case of the horse), and hearing a voice they knew and trusted.

Thank you for sharing.

Teresa,

Being a pet person myself, I feel for your pain...  friends and lovers may come and go, but our pets... they give us unconditional love (or annoyance around feeding time :-)

Sending you the biggest possible cyber hug possible!!

I'm sorry that you had to have Ginger put down, I know what it's like to have to make that choice.

Perhaps knowing that they are not suffering anymore, is some comfort.

My condolences,
Charles

So sorry you had to do this Teresa, it is a terrible decision for a pet owner isn't it?

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

RIP Ginger

To this day I still miss her terribly.....

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I miss her so much and the other 2 dogs seem lost without her. When we put her to sleep we let the other 2 dogs go to her and see that she was gone. I don't know if they realized it or not. When I'm having a sad moment and crying our dog Charlie comes over and lays her head on my leg and sits there and licks my hand. So I think she knows at least I like to think she does.

We had Ginger for almost 10 years and they were good 10 years.

Thanks again.

Teresa, I've avoided this thread but felt compelled to read it tonight, as I am considering getting a new baby this week.  A year ago, November 6, in fact, you sent your condolences when I lost my dear Cora. The very least I can do is post in this thread, but the best I can do is tell you that it's never easy. Our babies trust us and they know we are helping them in their journey. It feels so empty when they are gone, but you are blessed to have more still with you. I'm crying. And scared to get another pet, since I feel like if I don't get another one, I won't have to lose it later.  Crap.  I'm not saying what I want to say!  I guess just take care of yourself, and your babies.

Ginger was beautiful!

Love,
Creighton
