income to qualify for medicaid on ssdi?
« on: October 22, 2015, 10:44:31 pm »
so I know for a single person to qualify for Medicaid you have to be below 133% or 138% poverty guidelines. that's about $1300 a month gross income for the lower 48. what I want to know is do they add the taxes back to your untaxed income from ssdi? say your untaxable ssdi payment is 1200 you would be under 1300 but if they add your taxes back to it for gross income you would be closer to 1500 and not qualify.

anybody get 1200ish on ssdi and get Medicaid? anybody know if they add taxes back to you ssdi payment to qualify?

Not sure if this is your question, but SSDI and SSI programs look at gross income not net (after taxes) in making eligibility decisions.

No, they don't adjust SSDI benefits when assessing eligibility for Medicaid.  The exact maximum income level differs from state to state, but it is possible to have $1200 monthly SSDI and still be eligible for Medicaid.  This is in addition to Medicare, which you get automatically after you've been on SSDI for about 2 years.  It's called "dual eligibility" and is fairly common.
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth,
The minor fall, the major lift,
The baffled king composing Hallelujah!

thanks for the reply so when you say they don't adjust ssdi benefits you mean that the amount my check says is the amount they say my income is. correct?
