Just need some clarification...
« on: May 28, 2017, 09:14:51 pm »
Hi, I am sick with worry about a recent exposure that I had. From what I've seen it classifies as low risk but what has me so worried is how I have been feeling for the past 2 months and the timeframe from when I had the exposure and when I started to feel this way.  It was just a blowjob with ejaculation. I did not swallow all of it but I definitely did swallow some. I don't have the best oral health, I do tend to bleed when I brush my teeth. I have already been tested once 25 days after the exposure and it did come back negative. I would like some clarification on some things...

1) From my understanding a 25 day test after exposure isn't conclusive but is it a good indication that the way I've been feeling isn't HIV related?

2) I started to feel this way 5 days after the exposure and onward to this day. Is it possible that it can progress that rapidly and for the so called "symptoms" to last this long?

Thank you for your time.

We don't assess symptoms of potential HIV infection on these forums because symptoms, if they occur at all, vary widely among individuals.  You should not, either.  If you feel ill, see a doctor and get treatment, as appropriate and applicable.

Providing unprotected oral sex to a man is a theoretical risk for HIV infection only if your mouth has gaping wounds (as in "meth mouth").  However, unprotected oral sex could expose one to other STD's/STI's.

It's certainly not a bad indicator that you have tested "negative" for HIV antibodies 25 days after exposure, but most experts assert that testing for HIV antibodies is most reliably conducted six weeks after potential exposure then at 13 weeks past potential exposure for confirmation of the six week results.

Under the circumstances that you have described, I would expect that further testing for you because of the incident you describe will also yield "negative" results for HIV antibodies.
