I dont know if I am infected but im worried
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:23:26 pm »
Okay, I am a 21 yo, who is HIV negitive, and my husband (yes we got married in cali) is a 37 year old, HIV+ guy, that has had it 16 years. He was dignosed as AIDS two years ago when his cd4 count went to 199, but now his cd4 count is 480, and Undet. viral load.  He has a drug resistant strain because none of the Nukes or Non nukes work, and he on the new meds... "Prezista, Norvir, Selezentry, and Isentress." THe other meds are non effective. Even fuzeon, he resistant to that as well. Well.. my question is....

We have had bareback sex,and i know the risks... but okay...  I got tested for HIV antibody back in may and it was neg... but i got swollen glands in neck and sick so i had a Viral Load and CD4 test done and genotype in september of 2008. I had a cd4 count of 1100, and a viral load test done and it was undetect on their test and the genotype test was not performed since it didnt detect virus. Okay 2 weeks after that... i got glands swollen again, neck and groin, cold like symptons lasting 1.5-2 weeks, now better, and i read it might be ARS, but the viral load test was undec. Now i am going Monday october 27th, for a HIV Antibody test and STD screening for annual checkup.

WHy do you think i keep getting sick, my glands are always swollen and they hurt andfevers like i got the flu but it keep lasting only 2 weeks at a time... do you think im infected and it just taking a long time to seroconvert?

The question is "Why would you bareback" with anyone that is HIV positive? Are you trying to contract HIV? See you doctor for you illnesses. You can't be diagnosed over the Internet.

I know i cant be dignosed over the internet, i was asking what is the possibility i might be infected... and on the contracting hiv part,,, no i am not... but my partner is poz, and we have talked about it alot... before we had sex... and i saccepted the risks. I get lectures from health care people and friends etc.. i KNOW the risks and the life long stuff, and meds and ive read dozens of websites on HIV and health related things.

My question is thought... since I have had short, symptons of colds, and flus, could it be a possiblity that i am infected, even though my  VIral load test was undectec. in september? ANd i was just in the process of ARS and i havent yet seroconverted? I read your viral load test will be showing SOME viral load if your in ARS since the antibody havent formed, and since it was neg and so was my antibody test, i was dignosed negitive and i believed it.. but now a month alter im sick again , glands swollen etc.. and i was wondering what are the chances im infected even if his viral load is undec? and if i was ARS or now in it?

The ONLY way to know your hiv status is through testing. A test at three months past your last incident of unprotected intercourse will be conclusive.

You should not be having unprotected sex knowing your husband is HIV+.

You seem on one hand kind of blase and dismissive about having had unprotected intercourse and then also apparently worried about whether you might have become infected.

Let me tell you, if you continue to have unprotected sex, eventually and who can tell when, you're going to get infected. If you haven't until now it's just been a matter of luck.

As others have told you, the only way you can reliably know if your HIV status is negative is to get tested at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident.

You can have intercourse all you want to and still protect your health. But that means that the insertive partner always has to wear a condom. No exceptions.
