Job Title: CFAR Program Director

Job Summary:

The Program Director position will report directly to and assist the faculty Co-Directors in the execution of the Center’s scientific oversight and coordination of activities. The Program Director will be responsible for the strategic planning, organization, integration and coordination of CFAR scientific, operational, fiscal, outreach and educational activities; will supervise CFAR administrative staff, consultants and contractors; will provide oversight and management for all CFAR administrative data, activities, and programs; will provide guidance to staff and investigators on CFAR policies and procedures; and will provide information on the work of CFAR to inquiring professionals. The Program Director will coordinate strategic planning processes to ensure alignment of the strategic plan with Center resources, and the alignment of scientific initiatives with business and management practices; and, will develop and maintain metrics to evaluate all CFAR programs, services, and activities. S/he will manage the execution of seminars, scientific focus groups, and symposia in collaboration with the Gladstone Institute of Virology and Immunology (GIVI) and the AIDS Research Institute (ARI). S/he will have managerial oversight of the CFAR website and information technology and communications services. The Program Director in collaboration with the Finance Manager will manage the preparation of competing, non-competing, and supplemental NIH grant proposals (pre- and post-award) and subcontracts. S/he will be the central resource person for NIH program officials and CFAR researchers and will ensure effective communications within the Center. S/he will represent CFAR at university, local and national functions. The Program Director will also be responsible for all development programs, such as, developmental awards programs, training awards, junior faculty mentoring program, and junior investigator career development activities; will also perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

BA/BS with a major in business administration, economics, statistics, political science, educational administration, or a related field and six years of experience in administrative analysis or operations research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in project/program management and operations; skills and experience in strategic planning; minimum five years management and supervisory experience; excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, both verbal and written; computer literacy, including proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet; demonstrated ability to work effectively with various levels of personnel; keen eye for detail; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to prioritize and work well under tight deadlines; highly motivated and willingness to take initiative; flexibility in adapting to changing tasks/priorities; excellent organizational, problem solving and multi-tasking skills; ability to implement change through influence and collaboration; ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions. Note: Fingerprinting and background check required.

 
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in business and/or health care field; UCSF experience; knowledge of HIV/AIDS and/or international health topics; experience working with or in federal government agencies. License/Certification: N/A.  Position Type:  Full Time  Percentage 100%
