O noes, girl.  Philicia is a very active Facebooker.

I am one who barely ever posts anything on social networks.  I only keep my Facebook account to stay in touch with some college peers, Miss P, Jan, Jeff, an ex-boyfirend in Rio, and my youngest sibling in France.

But while we're on the subject of online presence, since you mentioned myspace Rev, here's a snippet from an interesting article

The (dating) profile, like the Facebook or Myspace profile, is a vehicle for projecting a curated and stylized version of oneself into the world. In a way, the online persona, with its lists of favorite bands and books, its roster of essential values and tourist destinations, represents a cheaper and more direct way of signalling one’s worth and taste than the kinds of affect that people have relied on for centuries—headgear, jewelry, perfume, tattoos. Demonstrating the ability, and the inclination, to write well is a rough equivalent to showing up in a black Mercedes.

Moi aussi.

the Facebook or Myspace profile, is a vehicle for projecting a curated and stylized version of oneself into the world.

The way that some people portray their daily existence on places such as Facebook --with pictures full of family fun, clubs and parties, hot babes or guys, and/or world travel (or their music, culture, and media tastes)-- is rather artificial.  It's some virtual way of saying "look at me and how fabulous my life is, I have it better than you."

But then again, people creating glamourized images of themselves or telling lies on da intrawebz?  That carnt be!

I was on facebook long enough today to ignore the fact I have messages waiting there . I just cant warm up to fb , maybe its because of things like my cousin updating her status recently when she painted her toe nails .

I'm on disability and stay home much of the time , believe me no one wants a minute by minute update on my fascinating day of lunch and a nap .

The difference for me, is that FB and such are used more for day to day activities, rather than say, this site, where we have far fewer numbers, but we know each other much more intimately.  When I read Jeff's post about his father, in another thread, I immediately had this feeling of just how special this place really is and how powerful the written word can be.  There seems to be different levels of communication developing through technology and it seems that you can pick and choose, to be how public you choose to be and the level of involvement in those mediums.

I tried FB for almost a year, but I could not stand the ignorant and hateful remarks that would show up on my wall, usually from friends of friends. I don't want to be gatekeeper for my own life and I would never be so vain as to think anybody actually cares what I do, minute by minute.  Or worse yet, I would waste so much time telling you how big my last crap was.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - News Corp has sold social media site Myspace for about $35 million to online advertising company Specific Media, according to a source familiar with the transaction.

The deal, announced on Wednesday, calls for News Corp to retain a minority stake in the website that it purchased six years ago for $580 million, the companies said.

They did release detailed financial terms, but the source said that transaction is a mix of cash and stock with News Corp retaining about 5 percent.

Additionally, more than 50 percent of Myspace's 500-strong workforce is expected to be laid off because of the sale, the source said.

"There are many synergies between our companies as we are both focused on enhancing digital media experiences by fueling connections with relevance and interest," said Tim Vanderhook, chief executive of Specific Media in a statement.

The source is not authorized to speak publicly about the deal.

The sale of Myspace caps six years of ownership under Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, which swooped in to buy Myspace beating out rival Viacom for what was then one of the world's hottest social networking sites.

Luddite

1. A Luddite is a person who dislikes technology, especially technological devices that threaten existing jobs or interfere with personal privacy.

2. A Luddite is someone who is incompetent when using new technology.

If it wasn't for FaceBook I would never have found out that Miss P was such a frigging Snob when it came to her daily cuppa...no gum boot tea for that Lady, I can't even pronouce the names of the brands of Tea/coffee she drink..and mention places like White Castle she goes into a faint... :D

Another reason I check into FB on a daily basis is it's the only way I can keep up/check up on all my grandkids...well the ones over 10 that is.

Miss P will come visit me one day and I will feed him butter beans and corn bread and he will love it , hell I might even fix some hamburger helper if he is lucky . We may have to hire a porter to get him and all of his skin care products to my house but that's a diffrent issue .

Oh Wow ... If he likes White castle in a box he will love my cooking LOL .

Butter beans are dry and nasty -- I was forced to eat them growing up, along with black eyed peas. You children forget I grew up IN THE FUCKING SOUTH BY A SOUTHERN BRED MOTHER WITH A THICK SOUTHERN ACCENT.

I love cornbread, cracklin' bread even more. Oh, and bitches I made grits this week.
