condom broke
« on: July 23, 2017, 03:42:20 pm »
hello,
In June, when i was on a holiday, ( 5 June) I had an sexual intercourse with a woman for sex worker woman. She gave me oral without condom for more than 45 minutes. but vaginal sex was with condom. unfortunately the condom was broke for 2 times. also she told me there was also anal sex for few minutes but i cant remember. I don't know anything about her HIV status. after that i cancelled my holiday and got back to my country and went to the doctor. And after 60 hours from the intercourse (june 8) i started PEP treatment for one months(till July 7). I
In 36 days from intercourse July 12 I got red rash on my right knee and july 14 on my left knee.  it is itchy.  the rash from right knee is recovering but the rash from left knee is still the same .its already11/12 days. on July 18 i found 1 red bump behind my left ear and after 5 days .also i found 3 red scratch on my fore head.also gone after four days.
yesterday 22 july  45 days from intercourse( 16 days after pep)  i feel like vomiting
and nausea.  but today i feel only vomiting. in this period i always drink minimum 1 bottle of wine to forget everything but still i am too much worried.
can you please give me your opinion  about these symptoms.
are these symptoms for HIV?
thank you

Hi

Scratches on your forehead have nothing to do with HIV.

Looking for symptoms is pointless as most people experience none and if they do it mostly so mild its not noticed. Testing is the only way to know and so for that reason (and a few more) we simply don't discuss symptoms here, its just pointless. If you are sick see a doctor and treat whatever is making you ill.

Also cut down on the drinking, its seriously not good for you.
Test at 6 & 13 weeks post finishing PEP and in the meantime move on with your life.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

Thank you Jimdublin for your reply.

I have heard hiv rash can appear for 2 weeks.  and yesterday i found that one lymph node is swollen on my left armpit. I'm having anxiety and I'm almost convinced I'm positive. I'll probably get tested august 23, which will be 6 weeks post finishing pep. What are my chances?

thanks

Simply stop with the symptoms, I mean it you are looking for them as an indicator when it means nothing. Rashes happen for 1000's of issues so if you are sick see a doctor and stop stressing about it.

Your chances, well nobody can tell you your personal odds as there are simply way too may variables.  Look you started PEP within the window of 72 hours, PEP has an excellent track record so keep taking it as prescribed and test when due. In the meantime live your life as normal and move on.

Nobody is going to address your symptoms here, it's not something open for discussion

Move on.
